1996 850r Abs Light, Intermittant Speedo (odo Ok)

As I have stated, I recently bought this 850R and have come up against some interesting problems. First I had to pull the head for rebuilding, then I addressed the no boost issue (CBV failure and control valve), now I pulled out the instrument cluster to fix the odometer gear and noticed that 2 lights were missing-yep, the abs and TRAC light. As I thought after installing them- the lights stay on all the time. I think this is a Volvo dealer only diagnosis, but I have another issue relating to that-the speedometer occasionally works. It did this before I pulled the cluster, so it isn't a new problem. What could I be looking at for repair on the sensor issue and possibilities for the ABS problem?

Others may chime in on the possible problem, but I would suggest an ABS module rebuild ( or replacement).Usually when the module fails the speedometer does not work.Starts as an intermittent problem in which the ABS/TRACS lights comes on , but goes away upon restarting the car.Prices on the rebuild vary, but some allow an exchange in which they sell you a rebuilt unit and you return yours as a core for another rebuild.Costs are in the range of $100.

the abs module shouldnt cause the speedo not to work first thing is to check the fuse and connection there. also 96's have bad wire crimping in the abs system so do a quick search and make sure your wires are good. and yes dealer only diagnosis but to me it sounds like a wheel speed sensor i might inspect the wiring to each sensor and then inspect the sensor who knows it might be somthing obvious like the wire is torn the the wheel speed sensor but only the dealer will be able to tell you what codes are set. also a member here by the name of Vitor rebuilds the abs module. 99% of the time the abs module is bad is because the module has actually de soldered itself his rebuilds are around 100. and the system does a self test everytime you start up when you get to something like 20 mph so you shouldn't need the dealer to reset any codes
