Yes.. can I not? somehow I think crap would get down into the other side of the intake box.

Well you could, I dunno much about the S60's and underhood temps but it may help to get more air, even if it is hot air. I mean, you're still getting it from the front air dam too...

Well look in my 3rd pic to the left of the filter itself.. that is all open I think some stuff would get in there.. no?

Well air is being forced through the tube and into the intake box, so at worst you might get a leaf in there, but it's gonna get in there regardless of whether or not the cover is on the filter. But it looks like you keep your S60 pretty clean, so it honestly probably wouldn't be a problem.

If you leave the cover on, you'll see more of a gain then you'll see from leaving it off. The stock volvo airbox with a K&N filter is one of the best intake setups that these cars can have. It more or less is a cold air intake stock. But the stock filter is more restrictive then the K&N... slightly.

Also, if solids get into the air box, they aren't gonna get sucked up... thats what the 'filter' is for, to filter those things out. Water though... water will get through.

leave it sealed, less cooler air is better than more warm air. Only tards that don't understand the point of a "cold" air intake take it off and leave the filter exposed to the engine bay.
