16t On A 98 Glt

Can I swap my 13G for a 16T on my 98V70 without a need to change anything else? I'm not looking to push the engine to failure, but I think my 13 may be pushing some oil after idling for a bit. If I'm going for a new turbo anyway, I may as well go big.

GLT. so auto. Get a T5A ecu with that 16T and you're gold.

I'm also in the scheduling process of swapping my 13G for a 16T I purchased. You do not need the T5 ECU for it to function properly. I did some investigating with a few people on the forum and it is a direct swap. The T5 ECU will help out alot, changing max boost, etc. but I'd feel safer getting my GLT ECU custom tuned after all turns out well with my swap. I'm damn close to positive that the 16T will work just fine with your ECU. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the input. Where did you get your 16T? new or used? I can get a new Volvo for $667. Any input on the ebay stuff out of California?

Sure thing, I'm all up for helpin the GLT owners out. :)

I purchased mine used from a respectable member here, 667 is a very good price I think. I don't know of any in California, however I do know of a place in Ohio I beleive. They run an ebay store XS Boost I think it is and are very trusted with feedback to prove it. I think a rebuilt 16T from them is roughly 550 or so.

Even if you run across one used, make sure it has very limited shaft play and it should treat ya good for a while.

If your going to get a 16t might as well get a retune from IPD or like for the car , but just using a T5 tune does the job also cheaper.

Been running 16t, white injectors R tune on a GLT engine with out any problems , only issue is the front tires wear very very quick

How about I throw on the 16T, get a tune from ST, park the car for a few months waiting on said tune, let Justin do the work and of course teabag my steering wheel at the time, let him drive it to test it afterward and of course get it impounded when he gets pulled over for the hundred and sixteenth time, sell the car because of the bad experience, and then decide to buy a base model and turbocharge it instead?

Just kidding

Thanks for the suggestions. I would only be upgrading because if I do in fact need to replace the turbo then they are all the same price and what the hell. May as well get a little more performance :) .

I just don't want to put myself in the spot where I knock the bottom end out of the engine because I went too far.

I want a 16t and the OBX exhaust...but I will deplete my tune money if I do so.

Could I run a 16t and OBX sexhaust on a 2000 v70(read ME7) without bending rods??

Im guessing the 16T(without tune) would only be pushing the 8psi the 13G would...correct?

yeah you will be fine its when you push the 16t to 16psi and above my understanding you have a chance of detonation and bending rods since the GLT rods arent as beefy as the T5/R rods but hey you can bend them also on a 16t lol

I guess if you got a perfect tune you could run more PSI but ? I dont know.

Again 16t , T5 or R tune with MBC and either stock or white injectors you would be perfectly safe.

shoot with GLT tune your safe just wont get the extra HP as you would with T5 or R tune.

I don't even think you need white injectors....most things I've read say the orange injectors flow enough for a good tune and 16T.

yeah it does I have the orange right now on that R from Maine with the GLT engine 16t and R tune and it runs perfectly fine

well minus the dead alternator <_<

I would go ahead and do the turbo if I were you, but I wouldn't necessarily expect it to fix the smoke after idling issue. Its probably valve seals.
