64pvolvo1800
I would go ahead and do the turbo if I were you, but I wouldn't necessarily expect it to fix the smoke after idling issue. Its probably valve seals.Yeah, that's my first thought too. I keep hearing from Volvo experienced mechaniocs that the seals are the last thing to go bad. I've always leaned toward seals/guides when this symptom comes up myself.
Guest Oreo's Mom
yeah you will be fine its when you push the 16t to 16psi and above my understanding you have a chance of detonation and bending rods since the GLT rods arent as beefy as the T5/R rods but hey you can bend them also on a 16t lol I guess if you got a perfect tune you could run more PSI but ? I dont know. Again 16t , T5 or R tune with MBC and either stock or white injectors you would be perfectly safe.Same rods are used in GLT motors as T5 motors. Piston size is different. Does it die out at all or do you think it could run with a HPT modified motor?
V70glturbo
I run 16lbs on my GLT with a 16T, MBC and an R ecu from a 96 850RGaryYeah, I cant run another ECU (other than mine tuned) because ME7...but the 16t @ 16psi sounds gorgeous...my to-do list just gets bigger.I just want my car to move faster than my buddy's 03 Maxima...my wagon is already faster than my brother's 97 Prelude Type SH. :D

GaryNice, I asked because when I started researching I kept reading that pretty much no matter what the HPT kills on the top end. Sounds like you've proven that otherwise. Sounds like you've proven that otherwise. Everyone that has said that has been speculating. If you look back at those posts, not one of those people have ever had an LPT engine with a 16T turbo. In the mustang world we call that benchracing.Gary

Sure the LPT takes more effort but in my opinion the torque it puts out is worth it.

In the mustang world we call that benchracing.Gary I have and I would take a 16t GLT car over a 16t HPT car any day you have the low end tourge and the high end power. I have a S70 T5 with a GLT engine with a R tune and that thing burns the wheels in first and chirps in second as a automatic with MBC set to 15psi . only thing thats faster now is the Manual R with the 19t MBC and ST tune to 17psi ;)

lookforjoe
How's your torque feel when you stomp the gas? Does it die out at all or do you think it could run with a HPT modified motor? My LPT motor w/16T put out 223WHP & 290+ ft.lbs of torque, it was very nice. I did add blue injectors & IPD T5+ remap. I wouldn't run a 16T + over 10psi on a stock tune.I expect much more from my T5 M built motor :D
