16t On A 98 Glt

From a dig, for sure. LPT's haul ass off the line in comparison to a HPT.

I wish I could explain it to you.

I know just as much as the next bench racer on VS in regards to this topic. I would assume it had a lot to do with the difference in compression ratio's, and the fact that my car can run more boost more safely. From my understanding, the higher compression ratio makes your painted-trim olive 850 more prone to detonation :P.

Maybe someone with REAL engine knowledge can come in here and blow all of us away ;).

Yes, more compression CAN make it more prone to detonation, but I am currently running 16lbs on an MBC and an EST tune for a 97 R with no detonation. You have to remember we are driving volvo's. They didnt tune these to the jagged edge from the factory. More compression means more HP with less boost. The T-5 and R may have more "potential" at the jagged edge, but there are probably less then 5 VSr's that are there. Just dont be closed minded and put the LPT down because it came with less HP out of the box. The potential for a fun car is there.

G

PS- And I read somewhere that painted trim is MUCH faster then dyed trim.

I never put down the LPT's, I said there was no way it was going to be as fast as a HPT in the top end.

I drove a 97 850 GLT for around 3 months before I got my R. That car was much faster than my R off the line, and it was stock.

In any case, now that I know that painting your trim adds horsepower, my car would never keep up with yours :(

No question that you can make a very fun car out of a GLT/LPT for not a ton of money. Maybe one of the best values out there that I can think of dollar for dollar.

That would be a cool thread - best bang for the used car+mod buck.
