jdlc
This one looks no welding is required, is that the case? The same place you got yours from Dave(777)?The rear base of my cat have a crack and the car makes funny noise. Might as well replace it since it got 130k on it and might improve my mileage too - sell my old one for $150, lol. If it's no weld design (and assuming I can de-couple it easily on the rear end), then I can DIY. My exhaust manifold is shot, mesh gave-out on the 'flexi-joint' which I think caused the cat to crack due to extra pressure and weight concentrating on the back of the cat. I'm hoping the exhaust manifold from the 94 NA parts car I have is the same (looks like it and based on part# cross-ref I've done) - and I'm half-way done taking it off, and it's in fantastic shape. Front Bosch direct replacement o2 on said parts car looks newer too (def not original based on condition).FCP/eEuroprats sell gaskets and hardware for exhaust manifold? Are they oem, does it matter, or should I get it from the dealer. Any tips welcome.Thanks.
7 VII 7
I got my NA cat as a direct fit from a company on eBay... worked perfectly and no problems yet... my emissions is this month so it should passit was a great price and if you have the tools should be a direct fit... I got the gaskets from eEuroparts.com and did not have a problem with the shop installing the CAT.

jdlc
So I did my cat over the weekend (V70 NA).The exhaust manifold from my parts car is exactly the same as the one in my V70, so lucky me, lol.The 'practice' I had removing the exhaust manifold from the parts car helped me a lot in dealing with the V70, it was a breeze the second time around. Instead of 13mm, I used 1/2 socket which is mathematically smaller than the former (about 12.7mm). Also, to make the socket extra snug for the four flange bolts, as well as the shield bolts near the flange end, I used strips of empty wrapper of fruit gusher (aluminum foil tears easily) and not one bolt was rounded, lol. Surprisingly, all the bolts in the manifold to block came off without much fight, as well as the 3 shield bolts on the block side, and the two bolts for the SAS pipe support.I took my time in removing the bolts and nuts because I know that with the tight space, rounding any of the bolts would mean extreme aggrevation. The cat I got is like oem and fitment is almost perfect, although it's a bit shorter than the oem, so I had to move the adjustable hanger holding the suitcase muffler forward towards the front of the car. It is in fact weld-less and the 'ball-end' was held by a special clamp contoured for the said 'ball-joint'.The car pulls a lot better now, revs beautifully at open throttle. Hopefully, it will be more gas-efficient.I've done PCV job before (in both my Volvo's), so now I can proudly claim I've taken the white block both at the front, and at the back, lol.
