Leno
Either I'm blind, or you can't edit your posts :/Anyways, I forgot to mention you should take into account what type of music you listen to. Certain amplifiers/speakers handle different types of music differently; building good audio systems are much more complicated then people think, lol. Ghost Shadow
Either I'm blind, or you can't edit your posts :/Anyways, I forgot to mention you should take into account what type of music you listen to. Certain amplifiers/speakers handle different types of music differently; building good audio systems are much more complicated then people think, lol.IIRC, you can't edit if you not a supporter. Here's your buildStage 1Boston Acoustic S50's for the front's, good quality, high reliability componentsBoston Acoustic S85 for the rearsPioneer DEH-P700BT nice head, with blue tooth and ipod.$600-650 would be spent.stage 25 channel AMpAlpine PDX5 75x4 300x1one Alpine TYpe r 12" sub$600-700 would be spent. This plan would net you a decent sounding car, when amp'd the car will be nice and clear with a decent bump in the trunk. My main concern would be choosing the right speakers that can eventually be amp'd. It's not how loud you can play, it's how well you can play loud. what ever your plan is choose good equipment and it all starts with the headunit. my motto is, your stereo is only as good as it's weakest link. RBoy8
that's asking a lot here....good instinct to have someone else do it. I'd start with a good HU, it's the foundation of your system. And your speakers aren't really as bad as you think they are, so wait to do them until later. There are much better ways to spend that money, If it were me, I'd buy a new HU and call it a day unless you can find nice speakers in a junkyard or something.I'm a big noob at car audio stuff too but I agree with (n)A-Game. I've found that just an amp can make a huge difference (my parents' yellows both have amps and mine don't lol)..... which is why my target right now is to just find an amp lol. ChasB
I'm running the Premier 880 in my wagon and it sounds pretty good with the stock speakers, but if you get one, be sure to run the auto time alignment and EQ, otherwise it will sound very thin. khax
well it appears i was really just being a noob with how my ipod was playing, EQ on there and some other stuff and i was getting horrible sound with certain styles of music. i've messed around with it a bit lately and although i know i got some water in the driver side front speaker, they really aren't sounding nearly as bad anymore. kind of noob of me but i'm happy i will not need to be replacing them. i appreciate all the advice though, sorry i just went and made it irrelevant however, now i'm possibly in the market for an amp and sub. i'm more than willing to listen to what you have to say about this. ryan850-t5
khax, state your goals for what you want. do you want a sub that just sounds loud or do you want one that has better sound quality. i personally like sound quality. jl w6 or w3 in a sealed box with a jl 500/1 or 250/1 depending on if you get the w6 or w3the Fi Q is a great sounding sub, also look into the ID Q as well. if you like forums check out caraudio.com ryan
ChasB
IMO JL is way overpriced. Don't get me wrong, they make a fantastic product and have great quality control, but their prices some how shout to me "we're better than everybody else on the block" which isn't really the case. If you're looking for some SQ, I second the Fi Q and the IDQ as well. You also might want to look into Acoustic Elegance. SPL wise, maybe the anything from Fi would do (even the Q is capable of taking at least 1kw) or possibly DD (Digital Designs). Don't hop on any bandwagons because it's the "cool" thing to do, pick your equipment for what YOU want to accomplish.
b3atboxjr
Personally, I'm in the midst of getting ready/saving to build an audiophile system in my 850, and for example, my slated component speakers are $1,200 ALONE; that's ONE part of the system.. (aka, front door speakers, dash speakers, and tweeters - that leaves the rear doors, back deck, HU, cables, equalizer, and amplifiers.).That's ridiculous!Audiophile system in a car = a joke. Unless you're driving a million-dollar studio with wheels. Cars are in no way an ideal location for listening, even when not driving. You really can't find a better way to spend $1,200?I can spend that a few ways and get more out of it than bragging rights.Khax, my advice to you is to keep it simple. In your HU, look for a brand name you've heard of with the functionality you need (bluetooth/iPod/whatever), and any brand name (you've heard of) speaker will be an improvement over stock. ryan850-t5
jl is overpriced but there is definately a huge market if you look for one that is used. i do like their amps a lot though. go out and listen to some. decide on your goals for what you want and go for it. DelawareT5M
circuit city has free install for all radios $99 and over. aside from that you just pay ~$52 for dash kit, volvo harness, and radio harness. speakers and amp can be done on your own

Cal3thousand
I can probably hook a good deal on Pioneer HUs. PM me if you are really interested. I can get them for a small markup over cost.
