Cal3thousand
Long story... Short version: Getting ready to do my t-belt, water pump, pulleys etc soon. Car has an increasing leak near the pass. side.On my way home from work tonight car makes some weird clanging noises that I thought was another car. Start going after a light, and bam... engine cuts out. The car didn't overheat this time, although it tried to earlier today. Needle stayed at 3:00. I haven't checked the codes yet, so don't ask.Towed home. All the hoses are fine, but there is metal flakes in the expansion tank! Q1) I'll have all my parts here tomorrow to do the job. How should I go about flushing all that crap out of my cooling system now that the pump is totally dead?Q2) Is my engine gonna be OK?
WhiteT5
Is the t-belt still in tact? If not, that parts list is about to become a lot longer.

DonutsDemise
if your timing belt broke that has to be the worst timing ever, one day early hopefully it was just the water pump. how big are the metal pieces?
dmelviØØ7
Yeah if the belt is still on DO NOT TURN THE KEY!

turbomoose
My vote is your car is fine, but your WP bearing probably is GONE, allowing the impeller to move and grind away the aluminum block area where the WP sits. You should be fine. But don't start it at all, and make sure you FLUSH that cooling system out really well!!
Cal3thousand
OK... so here's the update.I just took the cover off after having the car towed to my cousin's house on his trailer. Doesn't look good. The timing belt jumped the water pump sprocket. now, when this happened, i don't exactly know. I was at a light when some clanging noises sounded. I accelerated slowly, got to about 25ish mph and then the engine cut.I'm worried about valve slappage. Do you think I might have escaped huge damage since I was going so slow? I mean, I must have stayed around 10 inHg of vacuum. So it wasn't like I was pushing it hard. Oh well... I am about to get in there and replace all my timing parts and water pump. I'll replace the thermostat and flush it afterwards.should I try to run some water through the WP area after I take it out? I might have to fish out the impeller *sigh*
turbomoose
Wow, not good. A jumped tooth or two you can escape damage usually. But if the TBelt jumps off of the WP Sprocket completely I think you're pretty much screwed.
Chilled man
Well what I would do ...1. Replace water pump2. Flush the system 3. Change oil - hey cant hurt 4. Replace timing belt 5.. Reset all the timingStart it up and see what it sounds like .............I would plan on replacing the head .......................
prasamin
if it jumped the entire WP sprocket, you can 99% guarantee head damage.lucky for you, Joseph (JHEIII874T5M) has a head for sale for pretty cheap.....get it cleaned up, surfaced, and a new HG, and you should be fine as long as you get the timing right.or, if you've bent valves, I've got performance valves and springs for sale that you can swap into your head, then you'll have the ability to up the power safely! WhiteT5
FYI, valve damage can be done at idle. Get your compression tester ready.
