matt b
Shipping a head across the US won't be cheap. I'd buy Pras' internals and rebuild yours. Stinks that it happened.
turbomoose
I bought a VR6 head on ebay when my Passats Timing Chain tensioner gave out.It was pretty cheap to ship, less than $50.
Keaton85
You can ship depot to depot and its really cheap, I just shipped a bike engine from NM to ME for a hundred bucks. You can even bend valves by turning the engine over by hand... if your that dumb haha.Do the timing belt and water pump. see what happens then go from there. Just get it set-up so that it will run and see if it does without any trouble.
Cal3thousand
Ok... got everything off and a new water pump on.Now, how should I go about lining up the timing marks? I've searched, but all instructions assume that you lined up the marks before removing the belt. (which was impossible in my case.Currently, the exhaust mark is at like 2:00 and so is the intake mark. I know this is off, so which way to fix it first w/o bending valves? The crank mark is not visible at the current position. Please help... I need to have this put together tonight and I can't go forward until I line the marks up and replace all the pulleys and tensioner.

Cal3thousand
QUOTE (matt b @ Sep 21 2008, 11:57 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Shoot Justin a PM, he has done them both with marks and without.Thanks... Sorry I don't know Justin... what's his handle?I got the belt on and what I thought was the right timing. It sounds like crap and has a choppy idle at like 400-500 sounding like its gonna die. Kinda sounds like some dieseling. How do I know if I have bent valves vs. off timing? (My timing may be off due to hard to see marks on my 94 [can't find one on the cranksprocket, only on the serpentine crank pulley.])

Cal3thousand
Just as I had said. How's it running??Like crap... I'm not sure if the timing is off because that plastic piece that you line the cams up with got sheared off by the belt..GOD... I wish I fixed it a week earlier. Now, I'm stuck wondering if I should take the car into a shop. I think I need to check the timing again and if it looks good. I probably have some bent valves. What's the best/easiest indication of bent valves?

dmelviØØ7
Needs an engine is my bet. I have a head with 8,000 miles on it if you wanna go that route. Doesn't seem like the best option though. I'd drop a motor in it or part it out. Sorry for the bad news :(
Keaton85
WTF is with people and just installing engine instead of pulling heads and just getting them machined for cheap?
Chilled man
WTF is with people and just installing engine instead of pulling heads and just getting them machined for cheap? becuase for most pulling engine is easier head is only easier for people who have a good bit of engine work its still a bit of a PIA for me to do loloh and how is your drive shaft ? :P
