Falken 452, have them for over a year! Those falkens work better on our cars then p-zeros

Falkens have a squarer shoulder from my xperience too. The Kumho ecsta's that I have now do not stick when I floor it but they do make nice black smoke.

Sumotomos HTR+

$500 for all four installed

got them on the R and the C70 and I am loving them

sticky?

Azenis RT615

And 10k miles later a new set :P

I have Falken FK452's on my R right now and love them. Just a step below the Azenis and priced a bit better too. They didnt last very long but I went to the 1/4 mile a couple times a month if not more during the first 6 months of owning them. The last 6 months have been "gentle" but I still do some spirited driving on them. I am tempted to pick up another set but I might be heading up north this winter and dont want to be running those tires there.

If you're new to Volvo's, Pirelli earned a pretty bad name when the stock Asimetricos on the T5R's and R cars with 17's on them began shredding. Their was a class action law suit and it was ugly.

I have never had a flat in my life until I shredded three Pirellis and finally had them taken off the car and went with the SO3's. When I did get them off, there was a 2" tear on the inside sidewall of the drivers side front tire. Scary stuff.

well I am certainly not new to Volvo's My family has had them and I myself had a na 850 for 3 years. I am new to the R varient of the 850's and this is surprising stuff. I guess I must change tires then huh? I had 17 toyo's on my NA which shredded on the highway last year. oh and what are SO3's?

for a pure road tyre you can't really go wrong with the goodyear eagle F1s. the only thing with them is they have a comparitively soft sidewall so turn-in is slightly squidgier then others. brilliant for outright grip wet or dry though.

for some track action as well as road i found the hankook rs-2 brilliant. they need a bit of temperature in them but then perform excellently. 11 laps of the nurburgring in the dry, slight wear and good and consistent grip. not good in cold conditions though, wet traction was rubbish.

even more extreme then you're in the premise of tyres such as the toyo R888s (found the amazing as a passenger) and others.

The disappointment that you have with Pirelli Pzero Rossos is widespread among owners of a certain car model, especially among S60R and V70R owners. Most R owners hate the Rossos and swear by Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, but I think they are overpriced. The following three tires have also been tried and praised by members on Swedespeed and all three of these tires are not directional so you can rotate them however you want:

Sumitomo HTRZ III

I just had the original Pirelli Pzero Rosso on our '07 V70 R replaced with the newest Sumitomo HTRZ III and they seem much better. These are completely different from the earlier crappy HTRZ, HTRZ II, and HTR+ versions but are still very affordable. These have become the favorite performance tire on Honda S2000 and BMW M5 forums as they offer 95% of Michelin PS2 grip for less than half the price, and they also beat many high priced max performance tires in a Tirerack comparison.

Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S

I also have Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S on my 855 Turbo and they are noticably better than the pzero Rossos. During the initial 200 miles break in period they don't grip too well and I was able to spin them, but after that the grip increased and I can hardly break them loose.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

You might also want to look at Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta which are very good Dutch performance tires that are almost unknown here so they don't have the same premium as Michelins and other known brands.

These have ranked highly in Tire tests in European Car magazines.
