Angelus09
Hello Everyone,I am about to undertake the project of installing an aftermarket amp and subwoofer into my 1997 Volvo 960. However, I am not planning on changing the head unit (at the moment, maybe time will tell later), which brings up a few problems. The radio, as you all know, has the DIN 6 Pin connector linked to an amplifier. I will be constructing the adapter cable (http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=39067&hl=) so I can connect my aftermarket amp to the radio, however, I am guessing this will cut all my other speakers, which would be hooked to the stock Volvo amp (correct me if I am wrong). So my question is, how would I construct an adapter cable that would have a pass-through DIN connector so I can link both my aftermarket amp and the volvo stock amp? Also, any advice on routing cables from the radio to the aftermarket amp would be helpful. Thanks! Angelus09
So, I'm guessing this is essentially what Crasnkn has built, but with female DIN-6 plug spliced in?And do I have to worry about the second half of that drawing?*crazykn ...typo
HPTDoh
I'd replace the deck before getting an amp/sub combo. But why not just do a line out converter to get an audio signal?

ggreen67
Go with HPTDoh's recommendation. The SC-8xx units really are not too good when compared to a 2008 aftermarket unit. You will be so surprised you may decide against amp/sub. Though we don't recommend it http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3067430

Any 760/960 940SE would have it.
Angelus09
Well, I later discovered that my amp has a high level input connection, where I can connect it directly from my rear speakers., however, I can even seem to find where the speaker terminals are.... all the wiring is hidden... any ideas? Also, there seem to be absolutely no holes to route wires from the engine compartment through the firewall to the main cabin. Does anyone know how I could do this in a Volvo 960? Thanks.
HPTDoh
Not sure about the 960, but in the 850s you have to unscrew the speaker covers from inside the trunk, then pull the speakers up from inside the cabin. From there, I imagine there would be some way to extend some wiring down to the trunk. As far as a firewall hole, drill your own! Be sure to use a plastic grommet to protect the wire. ggreen67
The hole going through firewall is on passenger side. You will see a bunch of other wires as well. Fair warning, its a real oh yeah! getting that thick wire through there. I'll try to remember to get you a pic. Run cable up the passenger side to back seat (will need to remove). There is a hole that you can run cable straight back to the trunk.
Angelus09
Thanks, I'll go looking for it again. I couldn't find it before.

mojoman
I faced the same Problem... Easy way to go: buy a new radio or buy a predone adapter (there is a site selling them, just search a little bit on the forum)Hard way: solder the thing your own. That's what i wanted to do first, but i ended with a new radio, because i wanted an iphone-connector.Good Lock with the install!
