Removing Manifolds And Turbo

So I am removing the turbo and both manifolds to get to the head. My question is about removing the turbo. I've unbolted the DP and 3 of the nuts that hold the turbo to manifold. I can't get to the fourth one from up top and I don't have a jack right now.

Do I have to wait to get under the car?

I also tried unbolting the manifold first, but the damn EGR thing on the exhaust manifold is in the way of the last bolt. So I am stuck waiting on either a jack and stands or a 22mm open wrench to get the manifold off.

Am I missing something? is there another method to get around to the bottom turbo nut nearest the drivers side?

Another question, the EGR is stuck on the pipe in the front. I got the 22mm retaining nut loosened, but feel like the EGR is welded to the pipe. How should I get it off of there? tried PB Blaster already... is it time to get Medieval on this bish?

I did the head gasket on mine and left the exhaust manifold and the turbo in the car. I just unbolted the manifold from the head, and when I pulled the head off, I pulled it up off the dowels and forward out of the ex manifold. And yes, you will need to get under it to get some bolts. Make sure the ex manifold gaskets stay in place when you put it back together. It was a PITA but it was better than pulling the manifold. Also, make sure you get new bolts and oil the bottom of the bolt heads when you put the cyl head back on. I didn't know you needed new bolt and busted one off in the block. That required a new head gasket and a bit more work. Good luck.

That's not a bad idea. My buddy brought his jack this weekend and I was able to get some work done. I have the valve cover off and the lifters stored. I'll try to pull the head tonight or tomorrow. I will pull the turbo to check it anyways. So I'll leave it on until after I pull the head.

Thanks for the advice. I've got new head bolts along with my gaskets and valves coming in the mail.

On all the cars I have done head gaskets on I never replaced the bolts unless they were stretched. That was until I took the head off my 850R and proceeded to bust the head bolt off. I was pissed. I then learned that replacing the bolts on these cars seemed normal. I am glad the bolt came out easy. Isn't that what is recommended?

Here's a link to photos of the head if anyone wants a look:

Thats in pretty good shape for bent valves... Ive been a lot worse marks on the pistons and the valves were even worse!

If you want to go on the cheap just get used valves, take the old ones out and just bed the used ones in there. since the head is probably pretty true.

After a quick look, the guy at the shop said all the intake valves touched piston. But #1 cylinder was by far the worst and it doesn't even look that bad. I just told him to replace the valves that need it and clean up the rest. I'll know more by tomorrow evening hopefully.

I think that valves are like 5-7 each new...
