Cal3thousand
You lucked out - those valves don't appear so bent - hopefully the guides are in reasonable shape.Awful lot of coking on the pistons/valves - what grade gas did you run? Ever use Techron? I run the good stuff... well... 91... good for being in cali. Usually pump 76 gas, but who knows that the previous owner put in it.I've used Chevron now and then too. Is that bad?And about all that gunk, how should I go about removing that?

Keaton85
Can I clean the tops of the pistons with anything?sure, just bring them to TDC and take a raver blade to them with a little bit of solvent.
Cal3thousand
sure, just bring them to TDC and take a raver blade to them with a little bit of solvent.Ok... will do.Also, in that pic, I have the crank marked lined up the same way as I would when I reinstall. Does that look right? #4 TDC?

Does that look right? #4 TDC?Make sure you get all the crud out from around the piston/cylinder wall when you clean off the piston - it will build up in the gap between the top piston ring & the landing - clean the pistons @ the top of each one's travel. I use scotch brite pads in a drill - much faster You should have the the crank TDC #1 - that's what the alignment marks are for... make sure your cams are aligned accordingly - use the plastic cover to align the cam gears if you don't have access to the Volvo tool (uses the notches on the sensor/distributor ends).
