96 850r Ticking

Ok, so I had a tick noise for about 5 seconds when I start my 850R cold. Sounds like a lifter noise. I thought"Hey, why not throw some Lucas oil additive in it and see if it quiets down." That was yesterday morning. After I took about a 100 mile drive, not the engine ticks-alot-for probably about 1 minute. Anybody have any similar issues with the Lucas oil additive? I've never used it before, but now I am wondering how they can make so much money if their product sucks. Also, what are some checks I can make for possible repairs?

I have had the head off, but that was 1000 miles ago to replace the head gasket that looked ok, and the rock hard valve seals. This car had a really tough life before I got it, and I am trying to get it back up to par. I love the 850's and always wanted an R, but now I am wondering if I maybe should have let this one pass. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you use synthetic oil, what grade? If it goes away after a few seconds, it may be normal, now that it's getting cold out there.

My 855 had a persistent noise, so I decided to drop the pan and change the sump-oil o-rings. It was a pita but it was worth it, lifter noise now gone. Very few members here swear by Lucas, but I know some tried AutoRX. Of course, if Volvo is to be believed, you're not suppose to add anything to your oil.

The oil is clean, and was only about 1/2 qt low when I added 1 pint of the Lucas. I changed the oil about 1000 miles ago and I only use Valvoline 5w-30. I don't bother with synthetic. It was clean looking when I checked the level yesterday. I had a 94 turbo a couple of years ago and did that oil sump o-ring trick but it didn't work, I found out later that it was a bent turbo shaft. I didn't find out until it blew up 1200 miles away. That sucked. I haven't checked the oil level since I got back, but I am guessing it will be good. I see some people replacing the oil pumps, is this common?

I don't know what the heck happened. I haven't got it to make that much noise again. The oil level was good, but about 1/2 qt low. I topped it off the next morning and haven't had it make that noise again when hot. Who knows, maybe that Lucas dislodged something and it was temporarily causing this. Thanks for your help.
