Koni Diy Coilovers

I wanted to begin this project but don't know where to really start. I did some searches and saw the VS DIY tutorial but it wasn't detailed enough for me. If anyone has a parts lists and some detailed descpritions with pictures of the steps taken to accomplish this set up I think it would be good for me but also for anyone else contemplating this that is not confident enough to just do it on there own. I have done FMIC, brakes, etc so I think that the coilovers won't be too much for me to handle, just looking for guidance. Thanks is advance.

Never heard of them.;)

The coil sleeve just rests on that part of the strut? I wasn't sure if anything had to be added there to prevent any excessive stress. Thanks for the pic., and are there parts that you could recommend like springs (size and rate) and sleeve brand or did you just use the parts listed in the Vs tutorial? I would just assume use whatever you recommend.

The sleeve rests on the weld. It is perfectly sturdy.

Gary, I'm interested to hear you reviews. I remember when you posted your install but you said you'd report back with reviews of the ride/performance but you never really did. How do you like them? How they perform? Did you go with the 8" spring I see? What rate did you go with?

I have a brand new pair of koni struts that I've been waiting to install for months but my oem struts just won't crap out on me. I've been thinking of starting this as a winter project.

I built mine in a few hours. SO easy if you have (or have access to) some decent tools.

I've been riding on mine, same setup as Gary, for about a week now and I can tell you that the car feels incredibly planted. I went with 8" springs with the spec'd rating in the tutorial and it's nice and stiff. For the first time since I was 18 I actually went 100mph and didn't even notice- and I never felt more confident in my car's stability at speed as well as through corners.

For those who have wondered, these coils have also been remarkably quiet, I have yet to hear a peep out of them. I did have to replace my spring seats, as the stiffness of this suspension killed the driver's side seat.

any more questions feel free to ask!

a reliable place to get these parts is afcoracing.com

2 springs-

SPRINGS!

pick your rating of choice- i'd go with 450 or 550, depending on how stiff you want it (yikes)

2 coilover sleeves-

5"

2 "adjuster nuts"

nuts

and 2 new Koni Adustables. I go mine from FCP back in September using a promo code.

I did not make aluminum upper seats for the springs as were shown in the writeup- A buddy of mine had a few of these laying around from his old coilovers and he let me have 'em free of charge. They work perfectly to keep the springs situated.

(similar to the top thing in the pic)

Another route I considered going was to purchase a coilover kit on ebay to get the sleeve and lower "adjuster nuts" as well as the spring seats, then pick up the springs from Afco or somewhere similar, but I wound up skipping that idea.
