S70r Build Update

Vented Catch-can it is!

I always ran the water injection very close to the TB, just before the bend. The new boost piping took my previous point away.

Definately going to be priming the motor. I didn't spend all that cash on internals to hear them grinding against eachother.

I'm so looking forward to starting it, and hearing it! 3" turboback with that turbo. I'm hoping it'll be music!

It just has a rear resonator, around 14". No cat. It's loud. The new exhaust is actually what bend the rod in the first place. I had forgotten to turn down my MBC when I got the car back from the exhaust shop, saw 1.8Bar on the boost gauge, and heard ticking. About 3miles from the exhaust shop. I was quite a dissapointing day. So I bought the XC, and put the R in for some 'surgery' :)

Don't vent the catch can to atmosphere. Run it in line with the pcv system or go catch can to exhaust. I've recently gotten smoking issues and everything points to this. Apparently the lack of pressure in the crankcase, EricF has had it happen on I believe two cars, a weird whiteblock issue...TBH he knows more about it, imagine he'll chime in.

Nice to see everything is going well, might be coming back to SA in the relative future, this'll be done by then!

Gary (yellow95) knows a thing or two about water/meth injection. I'd contact him if you're serious about it. He can point you to the right places to get parts and whatnot. And DAYUM that turbo is ginormous.

I'm curious as to why you're using a stock manifold over custom or even a new R manifold??? Care to share?

I don't think he could fit an r manifold in there

Are they not relatively the same size??

Seems to me that he decided to just use the stock manifold way back even during planning of the build.

Also, Kibim, you didn't want to investigate something like this to use rather than the externally plumbed wastegate?

Quite right, I had opted for the stock manifold from early on. The R mani here is just too expensive. It was going to cost the same to have a custom tubular one made up. This was the origional intention.

Sadly the guy I used for my exhaust work before closed down, and I haven't found someone reputable who i'm happy to give it a bash, for a decent amount of money. The long term intention will be to make up a tubular mani. The stock one has been ported out and modified to take the wastegate.

The ATP unit is interesting, but I have a 4 bolt turbo, so that wouldn't fit. I got the turbo at a good enough price to warrant the external gate.

yes you can.....the stock and R are about the same size. Brendan, you should have talked to one of us out here to get you an R manifold bro....I could have helped while I was home during the summer also. I got mine from a salvage yard for $130.

Pras, thanks for the offer. I did look into it. Shipping would have been in the $400 mark+. Joseph sent me headbolts and some HID kits, which was $375. It's killer. I only buy stuff there that I can't get here at all.

$130 + 400 = Custom tubular mani.

Did teh GT35R fit right up to the stock manifold's 4 bolt mount? Or did you have to hunt down a special type of housing for the turbo that had a custom 4 bolt pattern?

Bolted right up :) The stock mani has that little lip, but once that was smoothed off, the GT35 is a T3 flange, which shares the bolt pattern with the Mitsu turbos.

Oliver! I can't wait to hear it either. There will be numberous videos made!
