gutbusterman
I have a 96 850R and am looking to buy snow tires. I am currently running the 17" Volans, but I will be getting a set of 16" rims and I need to know what tire sizes will fit. I see the stock size is 205/50/16, but how far from that can I go? Will a 215/50 work or even a 215/55/16? What have you guys found that will work? Thanks.

If you get a lot of the deep stuff, then go with Volvo's recommendation of 195 wide. You'll like leaving the rest of them behind when the light turns green when the tires grip well. Black Betty
215 wont work as well as a 205 contray to popular belief you want the most lbs per square feet so you need to reduce the contact patch to do this. This applies in deep snow and ice. stay with the 205/

Thanks. If I end up with 15" Rims, I'll go with 195's, but I am pretty sure I'll be stickin with the 16" I have lined up.

That size is correct for all 850's except for the R's. My fender liner was worn out and damaged by the larger size
sconeman
actually 195/55 16 would be better for snow traction and will fit fine (.37 inches larger in diameter) but will compromise cornering slightly.
DonutsDemise
wasn't the OEM size 205/55R16? they were on my T5, my NA had 195/60R15s which is closer to 205/50R16 though.

betterthingstodo
From my owners manual:Volvo recommends 185/65 R15 winter tires on 15" wheels on all 850 models including models equipped with 16" or 17" wheels.
