turbormonkey
Hi guys, I thought a thread with your current job or field you work in would be great. The reason I am asking is I currently work at a bank and have been thinking about a career switch with the way this economy has been going these past few months. Plus seeing my friends around me being laid off is an eye-opener. I just wanted to see what other members currently do, if you could post the average salary for your work that would help greatly, also education level. in case I need more schooling. I am just trying to get an all-a-round sense to what is out there. Job security is hard to find now. If you could leave the stupid post out like do what justin does dress up in a corduroy pimp suit and get a midget ho train, sorry justin I am only kidding. Any help would be great

matt b
Looking into small businesses around you.I work in export. I won't disclose my income (sorry, never have, never will), I work from home. I took me 7 years to get to this, slaving away for others. I worked in export, retail and operations the entire time and learned how to run a small business.Set a road map, tweak it every 3-6 months, but have an end goal (when I grow up, I wanna be...). I know it sounds silly, but it's by far the best advice I received during my MBA. Learn from others, I had some great mentors along the way and I am still in contact with these people. Its funny because I have a brother-in-law who works for import/exporting for dhl.

Volvoson
I work at Speedware Motorsports full time (M-F/8a-5p), doing "Web and Business Development". I do website updates, process orders, fun stuff. I've been told that I have more job security in the company than the General Manager, yet I make nowhere near as much as he does, damn... If you guys ever need anything, just call me up and I'll always try to help you out. I'm not on comission so I'll actually help you, not just tell you the most expensive crap to buy http://www.speedwaremotorsports.com/I work at the Seattle Athletic Club, folding towels 1 night a week. I get a free gym membership and also get paid for playing volleyball 1-2 nights a week.I also work at The Ram (Sports Bar/Restaurant) as Security 1-2 nights a week. I get discounted food/drinks, and paid to hang out while I work...People who're saying that there isn't an opportunity to get a job are just lazy, I work 3 jobs and could get more but would rather have a little bit of me time occasionally. I had friends who started off at just $25K (granted, it was almost 10 years ago) working as clerks for larger export management companies.

It's a volatile game, $30k one month, nothing the next. And everything gets spent on new gear at this stage. Only been operating 18months.
