snookwhaler
I have an old 94 850. I am replacing the passengers front fender and the rocker panel cover. The fender looks straight forward. The rocker panels look different. I'm assuming the fender will work? But the rocker covers? I'm not sure. The 1994 rocker covers have "Volvo" stamped on the door sill and have little rectangular access panels as well as bolts on th e bottom. The 1995 covers are smooth on the sill and the bottom and have no access covers as well as no "Volvo" stamp. Will the 95 rocker panels work on my car? How do you get them off? snookwhaler
Here are some pictures to clarify my problem. I am going to go pull the part off the donor car tomorrow if I can figure out how to get them off with out damage. The donor car is a 1996 model with smooth rockers:http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg133/l...rPanelcover.jpghttp://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg133/l...rpanelcover.jpghttp://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg133/l...rwithgroove.jpg
Oreo931
Cant help you with your rocker panel question, but the fenders will bolt right on.
snookwhaler
Cant help you with your rocker panel question, but the fenders will bolt right on.Thanks...I can see 4 bolts on top of the fender (under the hood) and 2 bolts at the back of the fender (in the door jamb). Do I need to remove anything around the bumper? I'm sure the turn signal light needs to come out. But are there any more bolts holding the fender to the bumper?I'm betting that the smooth rocker panels are held on with those door panel type clips. I plan on trying to pry one off with a door panel clip tool.Anyone else done any of this?
AlvinL
That white plastic clip (2nd picture) is remove by pushing in the center core so that the clip can be pulled out. Here's a tip. Drill a small hole and use a small wood screw to pull out the core so that you can reuse that clip. Otherwise the center core will probably be lost if you push it in making the clip useless. Chilled man
My understanding on the panels is that wagon ones and sedans are different But I am not 100% sure You should be able to use any Rocker Panel from 93-00 Sedan . And probally a wagon ..... again not 100% sure on the wagon ones thou
Jippi 855 GLT
rocker panels are different -95 and 96-97 are different. the later ones are one piece the earlier ones are 2 piece.
snookwhaler
Thanks for the help everyone. I got it done (I had to).I got the fender, both rockers and some interior bits off the donor car in about 1 hour.I just cut the plastic rivets out. I plan to use new ones just to be sure they are really on there.I'm not sure about the 2 piece thing? The rockers on my 94 were one piece. Just a different design. The donor rockers are off a 96 and they are one piece. The only difference is that the newer ones are smooth with no Volvo logo and "blind panel clips" on the top. The older ones had little access panels to get to the "plastic rivets", had "volvo" stamped on them and had a groove along the entire length.
