ok now, i think kerry is a terrible candidate for candidacy and I am a republican. however, it doesn't matter how good or bad a president bush has been if he stays in office the states will be seen as a joke

i realize it's just my first semester of macro, but the further and further i get into it, the more Bush's economic policies make sense. and the stuff about the president not having any effect on the economy...it's actually pretty big. to combat joblesness, the best things you can do to bolster the economy and bring unemployment back to full (which is really 5%), is cutting taxes and bolstering govt spending. ---this is according to Keynes

i would say he's done a pretty good job in that regard. he took a recession and rampant joblesness and brought it down to under 5.4% (remember that full employment is actually 5% unemployment)

like i said, it's only my first semester in macro, so take what i say with a grain of salt. i am just comparing observations from the real world with where i am in this class.

Humm. Again:

Its not what you know, its who you know. Frankly I like it that way. In most jobs with lots of power associated, it takes connections to get stuff done. Kerry seems ok as a person, but he lacks stones. Granted W is a cowboy, but at least he has stones. What ever happened to Clark. I liked him

this is the dumbest thread ive ever seen. and i hope some big hippie kicks youre ace be4 GOD gets to you.

this post far tops this thread for stupidity.

ontheheel, you're completely right. I'm just about finished with accelerated macro and all of bush's plans except for privatized social security seem like great ideas.

Ontheheel- I am from California but I live in Arizona, and goto school with a few kids from Texas who say Bush really did not do anything that positive as governor. One kid said he was a good governor, but than again that kid also says he's a HS dropout.

That's almost as reliable a source as VolvoSpeed! :o

Yeah. I wonder if they were part of the 40% dropout rate in Texas.

Numbers are pretty reliable

50th in spending for teachers' salaries

49th in spending on the environment

48th in per-capita funding for public health

47th in delivery of social services

42nd in child-support collections

41st in per-capita spending on public education

5th in percentage of population living in poverty

1st in air and water pollution

1st in percentage of poor working parents without insurance

1st in percentage of children without health insurance

1st in executions (average 1 every 2 weeks for Bush's 5 years as Governor)

if you are going to blame anyone for that, blame the democratic controlled (then) state legislature. the texas governor, by constitution, really doesn't have much power.

here is an essay on the powers of the governor which is fairly succinct: http://www.utdallas.edu/~msweet/th%20page_4.html
