volvoskiah
My friend gave me a sub box with two 125 watt subs. Can I connect this straight to the stock head unit or do i need a new head unit. I believe I also need an amp for this too but am not sure of what I need. I also would like to be able to remove the sub so are there quick disconnect wires that I can use? Sorry for the noob questions I'm just new to everything in the audio world. Thanks! --Aaron--
It'd be recommended to run an external amp, it will sound like ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD off your stock unit and will play around with the resistance and possibly mess up your head unit. volvoskiah
Ok so if I get a 400 watt amp to use with it, will it hook right up to the stock head unit?
--Aaron--
No, you'll either need to upgrade your head unit to one with RCA outputs or use line level adapters. Line level adapters splice into your stock left and right speaker wires and create the RCA output.
Chilled man
Ditch the stock head and get a cheap aftermarket one and it will be 100% better
Volvo Virgin
I was going to do something very similar but never got around to it. My local audio guru was going to take out my back deck speakers and use the signal from each side thru the amp and then to each sub. It was inexpensive enough and tho not a perfect scenario would be much better than stock. As I understand it, the only oddball thing you're really doing is utilizing a powered signal, so you have run an amp that will accept that and wire it accordingly. volvoskiah
So the best way to save the head unit is to solder into the rear speakers and use that for the subs?
Chilled man
Use a Output Converter cant get it at any BB or CC wire that to any rear speark then that to the amp then that to the sub and done. again its cost $40 for another $60ish more you can get ride ofthe crap head unit and get a real one :)
BEJinFBK
Look at the back of your HU. Most Volvo decks have an amp connectionIf it has a 6 pin DIN jack marked "AMP", you can use a DIN to RCA adapter cable and go right into the amp, (including a remote on lead). Uber clean hook-up.
