Fuel Door Motor

Well, I've had to use the "Bypass" release loop twice in a row on my fuel door. SO I fixed it! :D

You will need: A small screwdriver. A Torx 10, 20, and 25 driver. A regular screwdriver. Some Electrical Parts Cleaner.

First, remove these three plastic bolts inside the trunk.

Then disconnect the electrical connector for the door motor actuator.

Then open the fuel door and with a Torx 25 driver, undo the two screws holding the actuator to the car.

Then undo the T25 screw on the inside of the trunk and withdraw the actuator from the car.

Be careful with the plastic securing point for the bypass release.

Remove the two T20 screws that mount the actuator to the mounting bracket.

Now remove the 3 T10 screws on the actuator.

CAREFULLY Separate the two plastic halves. Make note of the connector pin location.

Withdraw the motor.

This is the correct orientation of the connector pins, they will need to be pulled out of the motor.

On either side of the motor, use a small screwdriver to prise the metal case away from the plastic detents.

Clean the tiny carbon brushes with the contact cleaner. Make sure the contacts have tension against the motor's commutator.

...It may be necessary to remove the tiny brushes and bend them so as they have good tension against the commutator.

Using compressed air, blow the motor out till it's dry.

Nice and clean!

My contacts here were a bit iffy. SO I soldered them!

After you've put the motor back together and then put the acutator back together, it's time to mate the actuator to the bracket.

Make sure you route the bypass release UNDER this plastic tab. Then screw the actuator back to the bracket.

Now here's a video of me testing my newly fixed actuator motor.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your perspective. But here's mine.

Why bother?! Just unplug it.

Yeah... You'd have to be in a bad area (or have some jack@ss friends :P) to worry that much about someone pouring something into your gas tank  (Or maybe stealing your gas if it goes back up to $4/gallon? :o)

Well, I don't really have to worry about that. I park in a secure parking garage at work. And I park my car in my garage at home.

I made this thread to help others. And because I like all aspects of my car to be working properly. If this thread is helpful. GREAT! If you don't care, go post your non contributing to the thread crap on someone else's work.
