mbsl98
We have a '95 855T with 122k and a '98 S70 T5M with 125k. On a fully cold start (Boston climate), the 850 idle will spike to perhaps 1200 RPM for a couple of seconds, and then immediately settle at it normal 900. The S70 will spike slightly higher, but it holds that higher RPM longer and then gently ratchets it down to 900 over a minute or so. Both have recently cleaned IAC's and throttle bodies and are in top condition AFAIK. Both run Mobil 1 synthetic. My question - is there a difference in the programing of the later car to hold faster idle longer? I know that our '07 holds close to 1500 for a minute or longer, and that this is done to speed warm-up of cat and other emission producing elements. Just wasn't particularly aware that there had been a change back as far as '98. If Volvo made no change, which is the correct cold idle pattern? mbsl98
If nobody knows which idle pattern is correct, how about just saying which one your car does?
MyCarIsRed
I have a 97 850 glt, it settles down to 900 rather quickly. The only times it behaves any different is if the tank is almost empty, then it takes a wee bit longer and is a bit rougher. cheapwagon
my 97 glt idles up high and then hangs for a minute and starts coming down how you desribed with your x70.
