Apexi Avcr Fitted But...

Watch out for that, most of the bent rods I've heard of happened with flooring it in 2nd (in that dead spot where you can't quite kick down to first but it's too low for 2nd).

I have to watch that a lot with my LPT. I've spiked up to 17psi at 2500rpm before since my MBC is set to wide open in hopes of holding some boost in the top-end <_<

I've fiddled with my wastegate actuator and MBC way too many times, just can't help it in cold weather sometimes.

I spike 21 psi... ;-)

my speeds out but as i said above i've turned the gear learning off and the feedback speed off.

Got ya, I never used gear judge or anything, because it needs an accurate speed signal, and I could never feed it one that was accurate. (In either MPH or KMH :- ( )

Sort of irritating, because a lot of the nice features are gear based boost. I would love to be able to limit boost in second gear to a nice 16 psi :-/ Especially when I get a bigger turbo.

the way i done it was to go out on runs and test it in fourth gear so it gets a proper load on it.

it's good to have the wires a bit long and a passenger. that way, my passenger was making changes with the unit in his lap.

i don't know what boost you're aiming for but, lets just say it's 18psi. i would personally set the boost to say 15psi up to about 4k and then 18psi above that and use the duty to achieve the boost.

you may not get the required torque and bragging rights but what you will get IMHO is car that won't be pulling timing, so will be faster for it's boost levels. the car will be very drivable and because the power ramps up it'll be an exciting drive. i personally don't like the typical turbo symptom of crap loads of boost in the mid range and dies as you get to the redline.

Yeah, I have a pretty good mapping as of now. I like it. (for the most part) My biggest issue with it at times is the 2nd gear load.

Lets say I'm in 4th and drop it out of 4th, I get a real nice pull (enough to keep up with a M3, and surpass it). I hold 1.27 - 1.30 kg/cm^2 Roughly 18 psi.

Now lets say I'm in 3rd, and force it into 2nd... It will shoot all the way up to 1.43 and I had in one case 1.48... (TENSE MOMENTS!!!) I have already had my rods bend in previous engines. And I can say right now, it happened a lot sooner than 1.48 kg/cm^2. So I don't know what's up, but at any rate I try not to give much throttle unless I'm going from 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. I try not to do any pulls from a 3rd to 2nd gear drop.

On cold days I find the spikes unavoidable. I constantly have to change the gain/DC settings based on the outside temperature. eg. on a day that's 20 celcius I get a max boost level of 1.25bar. On a day that's 0-3 celcius I can get anywhere betwen 1.35-1.40, it's crazy! You have to do a lot of playing around. You should setup the max boost levels based on your 4th gear pulls (5 speed) or 3 gear pulls (auto). Those are the gears with the most load.

Like what JC said, don't floor it at low RPMs, let the boost build slowly. I usually have the boost around .80-1.0BAR at 3500RPM-4000RPM + before I floor it.

Anyways, with these POS internal wastegates, spiking will be a problem. Not much you can do about it.

Out of curiousity, did you manage to tap any of the sensors like TPS and Speed? The gear judge and self learn functions are completely useless if you can't tap the TPS or Speed. Boost builds differently in every gear, so the self learn function will not work. Right now I have the injector duty cycle, boost and RPM tapped properly.

i've tapped into the throttle position sensor but being new to the avcr have absolutely no idea how to adjust boost according to the throttle position.

550, just curious, have you specifically turned the gear learn off? i may be getting confused with the feedback speed but when you get in to one of them, they maybe set to "3" or something. you actually need to set these to 0 to have them off. just wanted to make sure you knew that.

and yeahmy speed i out as well ;)

I do have TPS and it seems to work properly.

IIRC the TPS is the red/white wire coming off the TPS. (I have had the AVC-r for 3 years haha... no clue what it was when I tapped it.)

Yes gear judge and feedback speed are both "disabled" :) Thanks hehe

Hmmm... a lot of people on this forum (including me) have been trying to properly tap the TPS signal. Any specific settings to get it to work? I'm going to try this out today. Thanks.

Yeah... I never had issues with it. What wires have you tried tapping?

The only difference is my car is a 1998 S70

Maybe the fact that it's an S70 makes a difference? I have no idea. I've actually tried reading the signals from all 3 of the wires. One had no signal, 2 had irradic signals. Anyways, I've tried tapping all 3 wires and it didn't do jack! This red/white wire is the one comming off the plug that goes into the TPS right?

I think when I tapped one of the wires it even threw a code!

under the ecu

Picture9.jpg

the throttle signal is orange and white, number A16 on the plug. connects to the grey wire on the apexi.(thank you chris1R)

as for how to adjust it on the apexi, i wanna know myself :D

I guess it has to be tapped from the ECU's main wiring harness? It should be the same wire going to the TPS though right?
