I have a 97 850 n/a and my sister crashed it she is fine thank god, but the car isnt it. So i found this 98 s70 glt, that has zero compression in cylinder 2, the car has 103K, the guy is asking for $1000. Do you think the engine from the 850 would fit right in or would i need to get a turbo engine. I know this is probably a dumb question, but i was just curious. Thanks

This is getting even more strange oreo's car lost compression in number 2, my friends car as well in no.2, plus azjippijak i think his name is no.2. My question ia, why is it only cylinder 2, is their a hidden weakness in these engines Volvo never mentioned.

well what if i just swaped the engine and hooked up the turbo to the n/a engine would there be any problems.

na motor isnt built to withstand the boost.

it would take a lot of work to "hook up the turbo" to the n/a engine. and 1000 for an engine with a problems is not a good deal at all

agree completely

Call Ken at 1 800 700 8658 and you can get a 100k mile NA motor in perfect working condition for $800 shipped to the east coast

it has a 100 day warranty or you can spend $175 and have a lifetime warranty on the engine... now that is a n awesome deal

Oh god. My landlord has been working on this Honda Del Sol for a while now (not sure how long) and can't get his engine to seal. (He's done the headgasket something like 6 or 10 times.) So, a friend of his is coming over some time to do a compression test. Was hoping he could do mine, too :P (I sure hope my gasket isn't blown! :o) Although, he was saying that the tool might not work on my car because his is a turbo engine and mine is an N/A(?) Any truth behind that?

I think he was saying that the whole car (with the blown engine) was $1k...

the tool will work even if NA or Turbo... the range of PSI for a Turbo Engine is 159psi to 188psi... for an NA it is 188psi to 217pis... you want them to be around 5% within range of each cly

different cars need different adapters a good kit will come with adapters for 90% of all cars, just take out the plugs compare to the adapter make you're best guess and then slowly and gently try to thread it in

what if you modify the engine does that warrantee still work, do they want the core?

I got my compression tester from AutoZone for $30 and it had the correct 14mm adapter and worked perfectly

no core, but I would imagine it would be for the function of the engine... your warranty would be voided if you open the engine like if you open a xbox 360 or PS3

Having just played the piston game on my rebuild of a 98 S70 GLT, I can tell you that the pistons in a NA engine are domed, for a higher compression ratio, the pistons in a 2.4L LPT are dished for a lower compression ratio. Everything I've read indicates that when you add boost, you need to have a lower compression ratio to avoid detonation.

You could also just swap the head from your 850 to the S70, valve problem solved.
