Olive850
I have a 97 850 n/a and my sister crashed it she is fine thank god, but the car isnt it. So i found this 98 s70 glt, that has zero compression in cylinder 2, the car has 103K, the guy is asking for $1000. Do you think the engine from the 850 would fit right in or would i need to get a turbo engine. I know this is probably a dumb question, but i was just curious. Thanks
Chilled man
you could but not much if any boost . but might as well find a T5 engine and have some real fun with it :D

My question ia, why is it only cylinder 2, is their a hidden weakness in these engines Volvo never mentioned.

Jippi 855 GLT
well what if i just swaped the engine and hooked up the turbo to the n/a engine would there be any problems.na motor isnt built to withstand the boost.
Black Betty
well what if i just swaped the engine and hooked up the turbo to the n/a engine would there be any problems.it would take a lot of work to "hook up the turbo" to the n/a engine. and 1000 for an engine with a problems is not a good deal at all
HtownTurboBrick
you can find turbo engines from pick-n-pull all day long and they usually let it go for $250ish, much more worth it then trying to deal with using an NA motor. also swapping turbo stuff on won't work, internals are different. My landlord has been working on this Honda Del Sol for a while now (not sure how long) and can't get his engine to seal. (He's done the headgasket something like 6 or 10 times.) So, a friend of his is coming over some time to do a compression test. Was hoping he could do mine, too (I sure hope my gasket isn't blown! ) Although, he was saying that the tool might not work on my car because his is a turbo engine and mine is an N/A(?) Any truth behind that?it would take a lot of work to "hook up the turbo" to the n/a engine. and 1000 for an engine with a problems is not a good deal at allI think he was saying that the whole car (with the blown engine) was $1k...

JehovArob
30 bucks, eh? That's not too bad... Maybe I can just find someone around here who will let me borrow theirs for free :P
dcovey
Having just played the piston game on my rebuild of a 98 S70 GLT, I can tell you that the pistons in a NA engine are domed, for a higher compression ratio, the pistons in a 2.4L LPT are dished for a lower compression ratio. Everything I've read indicates that when you add boost, you need to have a lower compression ratio to avoid detonation. You could also just swap the head from your 850 to the S70, valve problem solved.
