bmx9854
I was working on my koni coilovers today and cut all around the spring seat and it was all free up top. I was able to cut through one of the welds on the bottom and chiseled away at the other one where I could get the disc to grind it. It was half way through with the chisel and I decided to bend it back and forth to fatigue the weld. As I was doing this I began to see fluid running down the shock body to the ground. I stopped immediately and felt sick to my stomach. I though I somehow cut through the body with the grinder but realized the weld had come out of the shock. I yanked off the whole spring seat to find a clean hole and a clean weld that came out of the shock body. What can I do, I know modifying something like this totally voids the warranty but there is no way that weld should have came out like that. I think it was a poor weld too deep into the body. Here are the pics I took. I'm really upset because this is pretty much a complete loss and I am out 1 koni and they are expensive for a college student. Is there any sense in contacting koni direct? ACES70
Why would you even consider trying to get anything out of Koni for that??? "uh yea i was angle grinding one of your shocks for some homebuilt coilovers I wanted to make and your welds were crap and now there is a hole in the body" Koni Rep.- " hahahahaha...click"
shanehutton
Yeah,I'm not sure if you telling them that the spring seat was attached too well to the shock tube will get you very far. I'm kinda happy to know that my spring seats aren't just attached by weak little tack welds. However, I do feel your pain.
Yellow95
My thinking is the exact opposite. I would call them and be as truthful as possible. Worst they can do is say "tuff shit". You might get a supervisor that got him so leg last night and might work with you. I bought a new set of rayban sunglasses for my honeymoon and stepped on them within 2 days. I wrote rayban and told them what happened. They sent me a catalog and told me to choose what replacement glasses I wanted. Point is you never know.Gary

Maybe they can repair the weld and rebuild it for me if its less than buying a new one.
