I feel retarded but whats wrong with what he did?

1. it wont line up corrrectly = you cant crank your engnie , well you can and you will snap something

2. if you dont line it up perfect and try to bolt it in you will blow the back of your tranny off and destroy your torque converter. - ask oreo lol

3. it wont work regardless.

4. It doesnt save any time if anything it takes more time and it doesnt work

Ok, for all the non-believers out there...Here is my post from the R forum thread when I broke my trans:

I told a couple people, and hesitated telling everyone else, but I dont care at this point. My car is running better than it ever has before, and I did all of the work myself. Maybe this thread will help someone in the future, maybe it will give you a laugh, maybe you will make fun of me...Who knows. Hopefully you get more enjoyment out of it than I did at the time! LOL.

In the process of installing my second engine, I destroyed my original transmission

"HOW??" you ask. How is it possible to ruin a giant piece of metal that bolts on so easily to the engine? Well, give it to me of course!

Here is how the order of things go.

The torque converter gets put onto the transmission, and then the transmission gets put onto the engine.

Want to know what happens when you put the torque converter on the engine before the transmission and then bolt everything together?

How about a destroyed transmission and 4 qts of brand new synthetic ATF all over the floor! YAYYYY!!!!111one1111!!

Anyways, it sounded like a giant tree cracking in half when it happened. It was SO loud. WAY COOL!

I must give maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad props to Chris, AKA jordanvw. Thank god he had a T-5R trans with 85k on it just waiting for me to buy. I went and picked it up from him the next day, and he gave me a good deal on it because he felt bad for me

Anyways, anyone want a spare transmission? It needs some zipties and jbweld, but otherwise its good to go.

ok, I'll have to go with my guts here and trust my work.

besides, i discussed the matter with a mechanic that's been around for a long while, and basically he told me that if there was no pushing and shoving involved during the operation, I should be ok.

today i looked through the starter hole while turning the motor by hand, and it turned ok for about5-6 full revolutions.

this isn't the orthodox way to do it, but fock the books!

there's always a different, and quite possibly,a better/ easier way, of doing any job!

I'll post vid when I'll start the car for the 1st time :D

thanks all

I seriously advise that you remove the trans and reinstall everything properly.

What happens when you put the engine back in and you realize the trans is busted? You have to remove everything again. Do it once, do it right.

If it is on correctly now, then you waste a small amount of time re-doing it.

If it is isnt on correctly, or something is broken, you waste a HUGE amount of time re-doing many different things since everything has already been installed.

You know, sometimes your life is meant to serve as a cautionary example to others.

ehhh everyone screws up when we tell each other what happens when we do and we all laugh we all learn not to do it ;)
+1 Preach on, brother...

What's the point in trying to help someone with our own first hand experience, when he's "discussed the matter with a mechanic that's been around for a long while, and basically he told me that if there was no pushing and shoving involved during the operation, I should be ok."

You just can't tell some people they may be wrong, cause in their mind they're never wrong, no matter what. So let him ruin it if he wants to since he has spares.

You know, sometimes your life is meant to serve as a cautionary example to others.

+1

But yet, some people see this perfect example, see the opportunity to take caution, but still ignore all examples and abandon the opportunity.
