Fcp Groton Sold Themselves Out To China

Hello I have been a loyal customer to FCP Groton through the years. When they first started out they were good and handle reputable parts from well known companies. It seems with each passing year they get a little more greedy by going with cheaper aftermarket companies to turn a bigger profit, thus passing on junkier parts to the consumer. I even noticed on their ebay store that they dont even list the manufactuer of the parts anymore, probably because people were catching on that they were sending a cheaper part manufactuer than stated in auction. They use the generic ad of 100% oem fit and quality just like that deutchpartsusa on ebay does instead of stating the truth and dont get me started on deutchpartsusa, haha. Well in the last few month I had my fcpgroton coolant bottle fail recently with three months use, A strut go through the hood yesterday due too the scan-tech spring seats. I have heard this has happened to several other members as well. Motor mounts fail after 20k, ball joints lasted 15k, axles that dont fit and the list goes on. Sure they will send a replacement and it last about two months and then you are in the same boat. I dont like changing the same part out twice in two months time, its a pain especially suspension. I am done with them, Please Guys share your honest thoughts on what your experiences are with them and what parts have failed prematurely that you bought from them, you can also include othe companies that didnt meet your expectations on quality.

My question to you guys in Nov. of 2008, where are the best prices on new oem parts. Also sites that sell the oem parts just under the supplier name rather than having volvo stamped on them. I dont need the part to say volvo, as long as it is the same supplier to Volvo. Also has their ever been a pinned oem part supplier to Volvo thread in the pinned section. I need to rebuild my suspension being as Groton let me down with a strut through the hood that is why this is in this section

without a long reply I'll just say in general I agree with you. fcp is selling junkier and junkier parts.

As of Nov 2008 by far the most reliable and a very economical way to source quality parts is to call Jamie at Darrell Waltrip Volvo. Tell him you are from VS, he even comes close to the fcp junk part price on some things. Anyway he is only selling genuine Volvo parts, trust me give him a call or email you may be pleasantly surprised.

Several people are using OEM XC90 spring seats now, seems to be the way to go.

I've a okay experience with them. The only thing i've ever had a problem was with the scantech trunk struts, which they replaced for free (with another scantech because they didn't carry another brand of struts).

I do plan to order my timing belt system parts from them, but i'm not ordering their kit, i'm assembling the order with parts that are OEM (such as INA for the pullies, AISIN for the tensioner and waterpump (which are the OEM makers of geniune Volvo). I pick and choose so that I know what i'm getting.

I bought my EMPI axles from eeruoparts and they were much higher quality than OEM. They also seem to have all the hard to find misc. parts for our cars and relatively reasonable prices.

I've heard that Erie volvo (SP?) is another good source.

I think you are right, come to think of it. I just had to replace a suspension bushing that I had just replaced several months before and I haven't even been driving the car that much. They probably are selling more Chinese stuff. FWIW I HATE their new website too. <_<

Never had an issue. I used their control arms and they are fine after 2 years. The roads suck here and I could see them going bad easily. I think the trick to control arms is to use oil and/or greese on the bushings when you install. That and applying pressure when you torque to spec.

I had a shop replace a control arm about 4 years ago. I had to do that one again just recently. I suspect that they did not install properly.

As for their other stuff, no problems really. I don't trust certain items, like others have stated though.
