StoneS70
I had a little accident yesterday. driving home from class and somethin falls off of the 18 wheeler in front of me. bounces underneath my car, hits the sensor and deploys the air bag while i am doin 75 down the interstate. pull over look over the car and there is not a scratch on it and there is no fluid on the ground. so i drive it home put it up on the lift and then i find the real damage. transmission has a slight leak (appears to be fixable), sunroof got jacked up from the impact (fixable), i need a new subframe, it put two holes in the floor, dented the spare tire well, needs two new air bags, dash pad, 4 seatbelts, and that is all i know of for sure. this is only my at a glance diagnosis. Talk about a terrible day.

If i do i am afraid they will just total the car.If it has frame damage (details of sunroof damage?), I would get it totalled then.. A replacement is a dime a dozen, realistically. Mods and parts can be transferred, but I wouldn't drive around in something that has a crinkle to it. Some fasteners might break off when trying to do work on the car down the road, tires might wear unevenly, frame might not be as strong anymore in some impacts, etc.
turbomoose
When I hit a pot hole @35mph, I bent a control arm to subframe mounting point. I had to have the subframe replaced. But immediately after the hit, my SRS light came on. But no airbags deployed. I guess the trigger is of an inertia type.
StoneS70
So i heard back from insurance today and the car is totaled. So i am going to strip down my turbo car send it to the junk yard and join the N-A crowd. It's sad to see my turbo car go.
Serge
Woah that's strange. Airbags should only deploy upon a sudden deceleration, not upon an impact.
JehovArob
Where's that deceleration sensor in these cars anyway?
Serge
Where's that deceleration sensor in these cars anyway?I would assume inside the airbag module under the center console (right above the hand break, if you pull off that little cover you can see it). JehovArob
That would make logical sense...
