6spd Swap

who here has done a 6spd swap on a 855 mine is already 5pd but i want an extra gear plus my third gear syncro is busted and i need a tranny any help would be great

M66 is great - I love it.

In FWD install you will need to deal with the angle gear drive sleeve. You can't remove it, since it seals the diff, and without the angle gear, there is nothing to retain it. Maybe "project 6" will respond if you PM him - his is FWD install.

You will also ned to get the casting for the rear mount off the donor car, and perhaps the hydraulic mount - I dunno if it's the same as yours.

In addition, you will need to modify the shift cable mount forks on the trans - they're not the same as 850/x70 series.

There are FWD M66 transmissions from S40 T5 FWD cars which were only made from 04.5 through the 06 model year for the US market.

I believe Project 6 used an AWD M66 tranny for his 850 swap.

Did not even think aboiut the s40 m66 that would make it much easier maybe i'll see if i can find one for cheap and see if it works i know it should bolt up cause volvo uses the same design engine they just take a cylider away or add one i think correct me if im wrong

Why is 3rd gear such a problem on the old transmissions?

Don't know - I'm not familiar with M56's - my manual tranny experience before the M66 was all RWD M40/41/45/46....

M66 is configured differently.. I'll have to look for some cutaways.. no more brass cones, for starters...
