Blown Speaker

I agree the Infiniti sound quality isn't the greatest. But for the money, the response range is pretty great. I find them to be a little bit "biting" with the treble, and was much more pleased when I had my Polks in the 240.

Rockford makes some good quality stuff. I had the P3 in the 240, and it was great. Used a Alpine Type E prior to it, and it sucked, blew out within a month. (Yes, I know the power difference, the P3 was running 2ohms, with 360RMS power sent, and the Type E was 4ohm with 250RMS.)

Not sure what you are implying or trying to convey with this statement?

Attempting to cut down on the comment saying "Oh, you used the same amp for the P3/Type E, and they're not even in the same class, etc"

Wattage specs for many speakers are just made up numbers by the manufacturer. There is no set standard of measurement of wattage or the frequencies in which the said wattage is tested. If you really want to know why you blew out that speaker, turn the volume at the highest you think your system is capable and go back and put a test light on the amp speaker terminal. If the test light is turning on then you found your problem(DC current), need to turn it down till the light turns off.

Doubling the wattage at a set volume level will normally generate a 3db increase in volume, which the minumum measurement the human ear can distinguish.

well didnt expect my thread to be so popular, lol.

Anyway, I went to a local U-Pull-It and most of the volvos there are either 940s, 740s, or 240s, typically mid-late 80s, early 90s models. only 1 850 in the whole yard, and of course, the speakers were already taken! So I took a speaker from a 740, it was the only size that would fit my car... the 960's looked like it would fit, but the speakers were bolted in as apposed to screwed in and it would of took too much work to get it out (only had a screwdriver with philips and torx bits with me).

The 740 speaker is not bad... it certainly sounds better than a blown speaker... but its combo bass/tweeter so the sound is a little bit more 'trebly' on the left side of my car now, lol. And at only $5, it was worth a shot.
