T5gruppy Posted December 13, 2008 Report Share Posted December 13, 2008 Definitely sounds like your lifters, once they get some oil pressure they quiet down... TEN8US D Posted December 14, 2008 Report Share Posted December 14, 2008 I'll add "loose exhaust manifold." on my S40, I had some manifold nuts vibrate loose, and even lost a stud. When cold, the engine would tick so loudly that I was sure there was something major wrong with it. It sounded like there was a midget in my engine compartment banging on the block with a 5lb sledge. Then I found the loose nuts, tightened them and replaced the stud. No more ticking. I was lucky; on my old Pathfinder, the studs broke at the block and were a pain to extract.
