R wagon
Hey guys, so basically I currently have high performance all seasons on my car and I can even make it up my driveway so its parked at my friends house. Even so, they suck on the slushy roads. So what are some good winter tires out there for the money? Ive ran Kumho ASTs and ASXs in the past and werent that badvfor the money IMO.Ben

speedn_j
tirerack has firestone winterforce snows for about 35 dollars a tire ...i'm rocking those for the ski trips inn the mountians. thats about as cheap as your gonna find unless you stumble across some used sets. javadoc
For the money... Nokian Hakkapeliittas. No they're not cheap but avoiding one accident pays for them. We're done here.
--Aaron--
Sumitomo/Tempest make very nice all seasons that are really sticky in wet/snowy/icy conditions....they're pretty cheap too at NTB, not to mention the multiple alignment plans they have available. I got out the door w/ a set of the Tempest Touring HR's for 414 with a one year alignment plan and thought that was pretty good.
Gilhuly
Hey Ben,Matt from Roxbury. Do yourself a favor and get ahold of a cheap set of winter rims and mount some 15 or 16s as dedicated snows. I have bridgestone? Blizzaks. Pretty nice siped snow tire. If you want the best, the hakkepelitas are the way to go. A dedicated set of snows makes a huge difference. For those of you not from around here - its f'in hilly. My driveway has a 100 vertical foot rise over about 100 yards or less.
Chrisonfire
This thread made me look for better tires. Pierelli P Zero's are not the best in 1.5ft of snow, and I found the Khumo Ecsta ASX for $48 so Im going to treat my self to a nice christmas gift.I couldnt get out of my driveway today, so I thinks its time for new tires. We're done here.i had a set of blizzak ws-50s then switched to the nokian H tires on my 850.one thing i noticed is that the blizzaks go ok in light snow and slushy ..ice..but will be unstoppable in deep snow, whereas the nokian are just the opposite ..they will shine on ice, and very light snow but dont do so good when it really snows. also the nokian tires do much better for high speed winter driving. I have a set of WS-50s right now and they're horrible on the ice. I mean, downright scary. I always ran Hakka 2s, which are a bit more knobby (and studded). They were insane in the snow, and kings on the ice. At $500 a set, they're a bit on the expensive side.

rp850
I'm liking these for $55 a pop for 186/665-15. They are essentially Gislaved Nord Frost 3s. Same tread pattern. I believe Continental owns General and Gislaved.http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...yes&place=2I meant 185/65-15...I'm liking these for $55 a pop for 186/665-15. lookforjoe
I'm using ASX's, and even with the AWD, I've lost some traction cornering on the snow. My full set of directional snows on rims don't fit now I have BBK. On my 200/700/900's I always ran 4 snows, and never had an issue with the roads by me in the worst conditions. Falken used to make an awesome snow tire - almost like a tractor tire - but it was so soft in the sidewall - people got scared with the change in handling characteristics. Don't think I want to spend 700 on tires right now
