Fudge_Brownie
I'm liking these for $55 a pop for 186/665-15. They are essentially Gislaved Nord Frost 3s. Same tread pattern. I believe Continental owns General and Gislaved.http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...yes&place=2I meant 185/65-15...Running the Gislaved's you mentioned which sure do look like they are the same tire. And yes, I believe you are right about Continental. It's the ONLY winter tire I've ever tried, but it sure holds the road better than all seasons, and I don't fear driving in the snow if that's worth anything to anyone. MrLorence
I got the Yokohama Ice Guards and love them..they were decently priced and came with free shipping at discounttiredirect.com...Tires were 200 and rims another 200 from Erie..$400 for winter safety, I'd say its worth it.. R wagon
This thread made me look for better tires. Pierelli P Zero's are not the best in 1.5ft of snow, and I found the Khumo Ecsta ASX for $48 so Im going to treat my self to a nice christmas gift.I couldnt get out of my driveway today, so I thinks its time for new tires.Where did you find ASXs for $48? BlackBrick
bridgestone blizzaks! I got through 4 inches of snow (maybe could have done more, but my clearance is low)Also, i pulled a hill with 2-4" of slushy snow, trac was kicking in on/off, tires were spinning/grabbing, but i made it. saw a suburu with all-seasons and chains on the front, he couldn't make it up the hill !!! RussB
I'm running Hankook I-Pike w/studs. This is their second season. Great tires, I'd buy them again
Martynj
I'm running some Hancook I-Pikes on my 93 240 and they are awesome. Low noise and grippy as hell. Drove to Vermont 2 weeks ago in that crazy ice/snow storm and didn't have any issues at all (and that's RWD too!). Affordable at Discount tire direct (last year anyway)I'm also running Nokian Nordman (low budget Hakks that I found on ebay 2 years ago). Grippiest tire I've ever had but really noisy. Looks a lot like the firestone winterforce.I've also run Gislaveds and loved them.Bottom line is any dedicated snow tire will be wayyy better than any all season, especially in CT. gtamike
I recently had to buy two replacement tires and I found that the Gislaved Nord Frost 3, Pirelli Winter Carving, General Altimax Arctic and Wanli Snow Challenger (Chinese tire) all have identical tread patterns. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi is very similar. I ended up with the Generals and so far I'm really pleased, there has been been alot of snow (including wet heavy stuff too) here and they never missed a beat. I did all my Christmas shopping during a blizzard and never got stuck once. Go with the 185/65s they really do better in snow then wider tires.
