What Transmission Fluid Did You Use To Flush Tranny?

Ok I need some ATF fluid brands that will work and people have used with good results. I'm not going to do Mobile 1 right now. Just regular ATF. I used the Wal-Mart "Supertech" brand (yes I know, BUT their oil is actually pretty good) and it *might* be causing bubbles/foam to form in the tranny I'm not 100% sure. But I want to use a name brand fluid that others have used and then go from there.

So what did you guys use in your AW50-42le trannies???

I'm thinking Castrol Domestic as it specifies it's good for IIE if I can find it at Advance.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Just use whatever Dexron III (compatible) fluid your local auto parts store sells...I would stay away from the no-name stuff- stick with Castrol, etc. (the stuff you link to should be fine).

I'm using the walmart super tech stuff right now without any issues. Well, aside from the fluid looking dark (after 2K), no other issues. I do plan my next flush to be either Mobil 1 ATF (which i currently use for my power steering) or if i feel like splurging a bit, I may go to Redline D4 ATF.

So no foaming? I'm not sure why it is foaming, I was thinking it is the fluid but I guess not. It's not the level I don't believe as it is spot on. Crap! :(

I'm not going to use Mobile 1 ATF because I don't want to drop another $100 into the tranny if it needs to be replaced.

not an expert, but i would believe foaming simply means air is in the system. after a day of driving, i would think it would be fine.

i would make sure your fluid is filled up perfect, the owners manual has explicit instructions. if it was under filled, i could see foaming from picking up a little air on oil pickup.

Hello,

before I replaced my trans the trans was repaired in a shop and they filled with Dex3 but later on I have read on forums that Dex3 is wrong for Volvo 850 models and S70 models unless the S70 is year 99 or later model.. the dex3 might even damage the transmission.. I might be wrong but be careful and use Dex2 fluid with the 850 or S70 unless your car is 99 or later year model.. both fluids have different viscosity and additives in them..

correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure that Dextron is 'backwards compatible'. Meaning, if your car calls for Dex2, then Dex 3, 4, and 5 will work fine.

It was at most 1/2 way between the min/max line, when I added the Lucas it should've brought it up to the max level, yet it still made bubbles and clunked/slipped erratically the day after doing that. I dropped the fluid and refilled again and will test it again but I'm testing it exactly like the manual calls for.

P->R->N->D->3->L->3->D->N->R->P waiting several seconds in each gear. Then I set a timer and wait 3 minutes.

You're adding Lucas to the oil. Get that crap out of there! You shouldn't have to add anything to the oil. Look at bobistheoilguy.com and click on additives and read specifically about what Lucas does to the oils it's added to. It's junk.

Backfoot is absolutely correct. Lucas trans additive is not good. It will cause foaming.

You don't need trans additives. It's not a mechanic in a bottle.

Just do several drain and fills to get the fluid out of there. Like four of them. Shouldn't take but an hour max. If you trans is 98 auto 4 speed, on down then use Mercon/Dexron III or equiv.

If you have a 5 speed Aisin Warner trans Auto, then use Mobil 3309. Or Toyota T1V.

Why wont you use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF?

I agree, it was expensive but worth every drop. I did a flush with regular and it only lasted about 6-9 months. As soon as I put the synthetic Mobil 1 ATF in, the transmission felt much better.
