'98BRICK
Have had no problems with my '98s AWD whatsoever. On trips to Nebraska, this car could get through snow that had small trucks pulled over for. And that was with all-seasons and Mom driving... Crabolsky850
My 01 S60 T5M has the same engine as a 94 850 turbo has hahaIs that for real? Is it the same old volvo engine just with newer upgrades? At any rate I have the result of all my hard work of emailing, surfing and hitting up dealerships. But alas, it wont be a turbo... HPT or other wise.I basically only had 5 days to make a purchase and there wasn't any v70 (wagons) for sale within a 75 mile radius that wasn't an NA. I found a few through private sales but had much higher miles and needed some maintenance. And I had a limited budget. I drove a lot of the cars discussed on this thread and my fav was a s70 T5 standard.I only drove that to satisfy my curiosity because I REALLY need the wagon (new house and a recent addition to the family). Incidentally I came across a dealer in the Worceter, MA area that only stocks Volvos and he knows his stuff. He also had a lot of t5's instock. He even had a 97T5 with a 120,000 miles on it for $3,300 (not too shabby). If anyone local wants his number I will pass it along. So I went with a Dark blue 99 V70 100,000 miles. UNBELIEVABLY CLEAN. It really looks brand new outside and in. Definitely the best find of the last 5 days. I will due a few cosmetic changes (ipd grille, slipping on my volans and a medium tint) and I should be good to roll. Thanks for all input! Keaton85
I had heard that the LPT engines have weaker piston rods than the T5, so you can't just slap on a bigger turbo without changing out the rods.Is this right?I'm not talking about a freakin full boosted 19T on a LPT.I'm talking just the basic mods like 16T, FMIC, full 3in exhaust, ECU upgrade etc. which WILL produce more power then the HPT.If your going toward rods then you want an HPT engine for the build BUT we are not talking about heavy modding here.ohh and the LPT and HPT rods are the same, as well as the head & crank. The only difference if the bore and CR which means the pistons are larger and the block is different(bore).
Keaton85
Is that for real? Is it the same old volvo engine just with newer upgrades? The are a few differences but nothing really major. Even has pretty much the same tranny as any other 93-98 850/X70Difference:Lighter crankdifferent oil pan(has bolt on oil cooler)VVT on the headOther then that it's basically the same as any other 850 2.3L engine. whitev70r
I was under the impression that the maximum that you can mod an HPT is further than what you can do with LPT. Since your starting point is different between LPT 197hp vs, HPT 230 (?). I'd have to put $2k to get it up to HPT HP range (Chip, intake, exhausts). With $2K invested into an HPT, I can get a lot more out of it or put it into the suspension. Perhaps what many people are alluding to is an LPT without AWD. The AWD adds other factors like weight issues.
Keaton85
throw a T5 ecu and a 16T onto an LPT and bam you have a T5... It doesnt matter if you have an LPT or HPT if you are doing small mods.the LPT 197hp vs, HPT 230hp numbers are just tuning and the turbo and nothing more really.
