mikie
My engine light was on for about 4 days, and it has been making a "shhhhh" noise when accelerated abover 2500 rpm. Now the engine light is off (the noise is still there but not as much) and I have an appointment at volvo on tuesday...will they be able to pull any codes now that the engine light is off???1999 - S70 NA - 135 000kmThank You,MikieOKAY READ BELOW, I NEED A NEW MAF. prasamin
it could be that your bulb just blew, and that there are still codes, or it could be that you left your gas cap untight...if you hear shhhhhh sounds from your engine bay, check for disconnected hoses and lines...see if that does it. icefalls
Yep, even if the light goes off, codes will be stored for a while longer. It takes, I think, 3 half-hour cycles of the diagnostic system to turn it off, and 50 to erase the code.
mikie
deeruck,Thank you.prasamin,I don't think it's my gas cap, because the light turned on like 3 days after I filled up. And I went and tighten the cap and it didn't turn off right away like last time. Anyway I will find out on tuesday...Thanks
mikie
Okay, decided to continue this post.Volvo checked the engine light and said that I need a new MAF. I heard the a K&N filter can cause this...Could it be? And does a bad MAF make a "shhhhh" sound when driving over 2500rpm?Also read a post about cleaning the MAF...should attempt? Thanks,Mike
prasamin
yeah, i would clean the MAF and the connectors....the K&N will not cause problems if installed correctly and cleaned at the regular intervals...i would say clean everything, because at this point you have nothing to lose....btw, a working used MAF can be had on Ebay for about $60....worth a shot and easy to install if it is indeed the MAF being bad...but i think that would set codes

And is the regular intervals in cleaning the K&N 40 000 miles???
theunderlord
On the K&N... It's more of a visual thing.... If it looks dirty and fouled then clean it... If you live/drive in a dusty area check it out more frrequently... and so on... When I had my panel, (which Pras has now) I checked it every oil change or so... :D
