Volvo V70! Timing Belt?

I was driving my 99 volvo v70 down the road after filling it yesterday and the car just stopped running. No noise was audible above my stereo softly playing. There didn't appear to be a power failure, radio kept playing, lights stayed lit, etc. The car just rolled to a stop. When I hooked it up to tow it out of the road there appeared to be some fluid dripping, however it wasn't hot and had no odor - seemed to be water.

at 101k I had the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner replaced and I had the car towed to the same shop that did the work.

I spoke with him today and he said the crank still turns, but it seems that the problem is under the timing belt cover. He was fairly vague saying the belt didn't appear to be turning properly and that it could be a variety of issues.. any ideas?

Should I take it to another shop to see if it is do to a faulty installation??

I am kind of at a loss here folks :angry:

he said he took off the cover and all the bearings were out of the tensioner (which they installed 10k miles ago) - he sounded pretty sure there was no damage to my engine

any possibility of damage to my engine b/c the timing belt lost tension? should I stress that the tensioner must've been installed wrong or have been faulty and thus is the shop's responsibility? thanks guys for helping me, im uber new

Yes, more than likely there is internal damage from valves hitting pistons. I would sure hope the shop warranties the work. I would push them hard on this.

There is a slight chance that there is not any damage to the engine if the cams keep turning with the crank and slightly off time. If the cams stop turning and the crank is the valves, at least some of them are most likely post toasties.

Could come down to who supplied the tensioner but this doesn;t look good man.

how can it be installed wrong? i did this on jan 1 2009 on my 01 c70 and it goes on one way. the tensioner is "keyed" so it can only go on the ONE way. it can be installed with FORCE wrong. just my $0.02 from experience

That sucks. Unfortunatly you are at the whim of the place you towed the car too. They could very well have made a mistake and are covering it up, OR the tensioner could just be defective.

Any chance the fluid dripping was just water from the A/C system? - sorry don't know where you live.

I wouldn't give up on the car. If you need to, get another head and have it repaired.
