Aw50-42le Or Aw50-40 Tranny? 1995 850 Glt Auto

So the Volvo shop manual that was posted on MVS shows the 850 having the AW50-42LE tranny BUT some of these tranny overhaul places selling kits list it as the AW50-40.

Anyone know why the difference? What tranny is it?

I'm trying to find what other cars have our tranny to see if I can bolt on another tranny from say a Saab 9-3 with lower miles since our 850 trannys used off ebay are pretty high mileage. Thoughts??

take a look at this link:

http://www.google.com/base/a/2312793/D5127087234921116082

it does mention some saab models using the same tranny. doubt they would machine up a whole new housing for it.

Yeah I saw somewhere on a Saab Forum that the interals of the tranny are the same. Also I had the same thought that it was the same casing, although I don't know about the actual TCU controls etc. I'm trying to find a AW contact to see if I can get someone there to explain my issue to. I just don't trust local tranny shops they just want to sell you rebuilt trannys for $3k.
