villaconn
I've got two sets of lifters. Looking at the bottoms of them, one seems to be shallow, one seems to be deep. Is it possible that the shallow ones are just full of oil? Thanks for your help.I just took apart an engine and noticed that some of the lifters were sitting higher than others. I thought it would be int v exh, open valve vs closed valve, however, it was a totally random pattern. Besides the fact that I came to my senses realizing all valves are closed since the cams were off, i came to the conclusion that the ones that are sitting lower on the head are collapsed. The "higher" ones had a little bit of give or movement. This let me know that these were still good. The "lower" or collapsed ones did not give at all. What you have there are several collapsed lifters. In my case, since I lost a rod bearing I am attributing it to debris getting in them. The oil coming out of them was sparkly and shiny. Coincidentally, that one appears to be collapsed or shorter. This is making hard "slap" contact against the valve. If you look at the other one which appears to have the plunger extended, does not have the same marking. This is due to constant contact with the valve and pushing it down in a controlled manner. I hope this makes sense to you.Cheers,Ricky

Hilton
These are the ones I dropped in. Should I pull them and stick in the others?
villaconn
These are the ones I dropped in. Should I pull them and stick in the others? That one is collapsed. You want the others. New ones are about 15.00/ea which doesn't sound too bad. But when you do 20 of them it adds up to real money. I would not hesitate to put good used ones in there, just make sure they are not collapsed.Cheers,Ricky
