Just a thought, and perhaps some jet engine gurus can tell me otherwise, but why not put a very fine grill over the front of the engines to prevent birds from getting sucked inside? Granted it might just julienne cut the bird.

first thing that came to mind is at altitude moisture could form and then freeze causing a massive reduction if not full blockage in airflow

wouldnt work, the bird would now just be wrapped nicely in wire mesh when ingested by the engine. The massive amount of air sucked into those engines would rip the mesh apart with a bird chilling on it.

the term HERO is thrown around so loosely now... its meaning is so diluted it is ridiculous

if the pilot carried 8 people on his back and then saved a puppy from drowning while the dog was having a heart attack that would be a hero

but a pilot doing his job? give me a break
