Hid Fog Light Installs

As the title says, when you install HID's in your fog lights, where do you put the ballasts and are the lines that come with your kit long enough?

I just installed HID's in my headlights yesterday and am so impressed, I'd like to do my Fogs now but have a few questions.

Mounted mine in the engine bay.....the fog light wire comes from inside the fender behind the turn....just spliced it in there and ballast sits in front of the battery, runs down the inside of the bay and out by the splash guard. Low beam is mounted below the headlight assembly. Passenger is pretty much the same.

In front of the battery.

Looking down next to the frame. Slim line ballasts have the ignitor in line. Goes past where I relocated the horns.

if you have an R bumper it's much easier just to mount it in the little cubby/shelf thing inside the bumper, but if you don't have the R bumper, it's a little safer just to mount it up by the headlights.

Here...

..you can also see where stock holder is hollowed out & bulb is epoxied into holder.

..on frame rail. Easy to get to from underneath. I used 3M tape to mount, tie wrap through frame is just insurance, it gets very cold here.

are you guys having any problems mounting the HID bulbs in the halogen bulb hoders?

you have to hollow out the bulb holder in order to fit the bulb and wires through. what i did was i fed the wires through, held the bulb in place and put some hot glue in the hollow bulb holder to hold the bulb and wirse firmly in place, while also protecting against water ;)

Thanks for the info guys... so, what's the best way to hollow out that hard plastic that's so brittle?

Also, when you guys installed this, did you cut the pigtails for the fog connectors and solder up directly or did you use the spade connectors inserted into the pigtail connector?

I used a drill press and a hole saw. Did the fine tuning with a dremel. filled it back up with epoxy when the bulb was installed.

For the wiring, I tied into the wiring a foot or so from the end of the plug. Then plugged the OEM connector into the little holder bracket in case I, or the next owner, ever wanted to go back to halogens.

Solder bosch connector - to plug into stock harness...

I'm planning to HID my fog also, just wonder if you guys keep the metal flag-like thingy on driver's side foglight housing? I know its there to prevent the light from shining into the eyes of the on-coming drivers, but will it be on the way of the HID bulb? For the ones who have it removed, do you think the HID lights will blind other drivers? :monkey:

all you have to do is bend it up a little, and to compensate for that just angle the beam lower, no big deal. some people have removed it altogether though, i can only imagine how fantastic that feels to oncoming drivers
