Another Sunroof Question

you could just get a whole new one from a jy lol

that's probably the easiest/cheapest

i couldn't imagine you would save any money by replacing the seal

and the beauty of pick n pulls is that you can hack up the car you are taking parts off of and not worry about it

like you can completely mangle the headliner to get to the sunroof assy.

rather than taking your time because you need to reuse the original one ha

it's your call though

I would imagine the seal is sold seperately....you may want to investigate that. If it is sold seperately the sunroof glass is removed with 4 torx IIRC, 2 on each side of the track accessable from inside the car. Upon reinstallation make sure you line the glass up with the roof good, if it's dipping too far down in the rear you will notice wind noise and take a chance at water escaping from the sunroof's drain pan and into the car.

Are you talking about the rubber seal on the roof? or are you sure it's not leaking from the actual glass/frame junction. I know MadeInJapan had a write up on his roof leak. I had the very same failure on my 93 850. Just replace the glass/frame assembly from a newer model that wasn;t raised in a salty environment. MIJ actually used the Volvo sealant and procedure to fix his and with success I might add. It's just a PITA.

I was talking about the sunroof seal per the OP's question....only thing he may encounter when removing the seal is finding rust underneight which would either need taken care of for the time being or the glass replaced with a rust free unit and then a new seal applied.

I actually meant to direct my comments to the OP. I think he IS talking about the glass/frame sealant, not hte sunroof rubber seal on the car. In which case, I stand by my reference to MIJ's earlier write up. I had the exact same problem and once i took the glass/frame apart I said screw it and bought a used sunroof glass. Much easier. I still have the old glass and frame if OP wants to buy the sealant and experiment.....

Oh ok, sorry for the confusion. Hopefully he'll chime in and verify what his issue is with.

If you mean the rubber seal that is applied around the circumfrence of the window itself that seal is available from Volvo. Its self adhesive and for what it is, really expensive. I can.t believe they charge $100 bucks for a little rubber seal. I followed the Bay 13 direction on removing the sunroof shade, which involves removing the sunroof itself. Getting the old seal off the glass is a PIA as most of the old seal stays on the glass when you try to remove it. You have to use a razor blade to get it off properly. Once removed the rest is easy. Has anyone here replaced the glass assembly with a new unit from Volvo. Curious what the cost would be?

i was talking about the seal that goes around the sunroof glass. i saw it from one website for 200.00 (unbelivable)

i love JY but i the ones ner me hardly have any volvos. i would have to go to sacramento.

i saw the bay 13 instructions- really helpful.

if i can get the seal for 100.00 that would be better then searching a bunch of jy and then finding out that one leaks

Are you positive it's the seal on the car and not the actual glass/metal frame junction? I think it's more oftern this junction instead of the seal. PM MadeinJapan and he can point you in the right direction. It's fairly simple to fix and less than the $100. I would hate to see you spend the 100 only to find out it was the glass junction afterward.

HM ... the leak started to happen after i adjusted my sunroof it was sticking up in front and sunk in rear. now i see water dripping along the front of the roof where the metal "lip" is.

is this the metal junction you're talking about ?

i remember something about this writeup but i cant find it
