Ken n Chattanooga
Hello guys, thanks for all of the great help in the past..... New problem I have had a minor tailgate issue for a few weeks light on and had to use my finger to "trip" the latch a time or two to get to close. This morning I went to close it and it wouldnt latch at all. Seems to be broken, the latch. I was researching and found this notice that there was a recall ....... question is this a dealer fix even on my 1999 xc70 with 175000 miles? If not any ideas on locating a part online and repair. I love this car and think that in general Volvo is the best value in buying a used car. Example .. I just bought my wife a 2000 v40 105000 for $4000. It is a beautiful carwell maintained. I believe, generaly speaking people who purchase Volvos new have recourses to maintain them. So i think 100k is just getting broken in good. I dont want to take to dealer for repair, MAN that is expensive for this ol cowboy! Please help! And thanks in advance...AUG 24, 2000 | Recall ID# 46402 Hide Details Recall Reason LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:TAILGATE:LATCH Recall Date AUG 24, 2000 Model Affected V70 Potential Units Affected 4957 Recall SummaryON CERTAIN STATION WAGONS, THE TAILGATE LOCKING MECHANISM MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY MANUFACTURED WHICH, IN COMBINATION WITH COLD TEMPERATURES, COULD CAUSE IMPROPER LOCKING OF THE TAILGATE. decker
Tell me more... the latch on the '99 is hard to open... I did notice there has already been a used latch installed once. You have to fidget with the release handle to get it to open. Is there some adjustment in the cable? I can see where not being able to open the rear hatch could be a safety issue... if a doctors golf clubs were back there and the car was on fire... he couldn't get them out if the trunk would not open... I guess the same can be said of a mother that might have two children riding in the rear jump seat... although the doctor and the golf club analogy is funnier. Just bring it in to a Volvo dealer and they should fix it.
smokin' T5M
Agreed. If the recall hasn't been done in the past then it should be covered
