850 Exhaust

Kit Vexed

Recommended Posts

i was gonna wait on a turbo back or dp cause i still have the stock 15g and may change in the future, so the purpose of this post was actually a cat-back system since it can remain stationary through any future mods... my main concerns were: advantages (if any) of 3" over 2.5" and basically longevity (which is why i hadn't mentioned OBX - a lot of you guys have em, but not long enough to tell me if they last or not), i plan on keeping my T5-R for my kids; i've had it since 88K and just turned 96K last week - so its just a 'baby' in Volvo terms. i want an exhaust that is great flowing, great sounding, and long lasting... dont we all? whats the general concensus? custom then? Ferrita? haven't heard anything about EST yet..

I'm pretty sure EST sells the Ferrita. I have OBX dp with EST and am very happy with both sound and performance. It sounds like this outside, and this inside. Much less drone than the Evolve Sport Exhaust system on my prior R.

oh geez, I missed the part about "NO TURBO"

so nevermind....

just go to the local muffler shop and have a good free flowing muffler (like Flowmaster) put on.

Definately do NOT get flowmaster. Flowmaster is hardly "free flowing". You want to go with something like magnaflow, or borla, something you can pick up and see straight through it. I'd recommend magnaflow, you can pick up a stainless steel muffler from them for about 50-60 bucks. I had a 2.5" magnaflow catback on my 96 t5 and it not only sounded great, it worked great. Very similar to the ipd and est exhausts. Quiet cruising but definitely growled when you wanted it to.

I think custom is the better way to go. I got a full 3" catless mandrill bent exhaust and it comes apart very easily I don't even have to have the car up on stands to get it on or off. If you do not want the droning though I would avoid 3".
3" with two straight through shouldn't be bad at all to the average person. (on this board)
