Wiring Harness For Factory Amplifier Bypass

sion

Recommended Posts

I've searched in this forum extensively but can't find anything conclusive at this point.

Short story is I've removed the factory SC-815 & factory amp to fit a non amped Pioneer h/u. I purchased a Scosche VO01B harness & found one of the two 14 pin connectors fits the connection from the amp but have discovered this kit doesn't work for factory amp bypassing & neither harness supplied fits the 14 pin connector which plugged into the SC-815.

How do I get around this? It looks like I could use the Metra harnesses for radio & amp but would welcome any advice from someone who's been through the same situation.

BTW, the smaller 10 pin connector which goes into the back of the original h/u only has one wire going into it, a yellow & black number, while the 14 pin connector next to it is missing one wire - is the single wire from the 10 pin swapped into the 14 pin?

I can post a pic tomorrow night if this sounds utterly confusing

Many thanks!

It sounds similar to the SC-901 in my car. You cannot remove the amp, all of the speakers are powered by the amp. If you are fitting an aftermarket HU you need an adapter to use the factory amp. I might have an extra adapter somewhere.

If this is the case and you still want to remove the amp, you will have to require the entire audio system.

I can't seem to edit my posts. That last line should read:

If this is the case and you still want to remove the amp, you will have to rewire the entire audio system.

Thanks for this - but are you certain you need to rewire the speakers if bypassing the amp?

Metra list a harness, part # 70-1120, which apparently enables the amp to be bypassed. Part # 70-9220 is the harness listed for the h/u, but I admit to being somewhat confused. I assume the wiring harness from the amp would be routed back to the new h/u via the radio harness?

Splicing is looking like a reasonable option :o

If bypassing the amp, i'm almost 99% certain that you need to rewire all the speakers. Because here is a wiring diagram: http://www.tehnomagazin.com/Auto-radio-car...g-Connector.htm and you said that the 10 pin connector only had 1 wire, that means that there is no wiring already in existance for the speakers. Also, why bypass the factory amp? It's either 50wx4ch, or 100wx4ch. I believe both are as powerful or even more powerful than just the head unit.

buy the correct aftermarket wireharness you dont have to do any rewireing ;)

if you look at the wires behind the radio you will see a second set of connections behind it.

those will be the headunit to amp to car harness remove that and then you will have the direct to speakers / power wireharness.

what you will need to buy is this http://www.crutchfield.com/g_103000/Vehicl...es.html?tp=2977

and then you will be golden

the nice thing is this one is the same for every and I mean EVERY aftermarket head ever made.

heres some old pics of mine

sure its a wagon but its the same deal just difference placement for amp and such

to lazy to look for the rest but you get the idea

now what you will have to do is if your using a aftermarket amp for the doors you will need a 4 channel one as you see on my right side of the pic and run new wires from there to the back of your stock unit but hop in on the wireharness you will buy from Crutchfield.

Many thanks for the advice Chilled Man! I'll check out my factory wiring harness tonight for the h/u to amp harness & remove it.

Crutchfield won't ship internationally unfortunately - they state international customers need to have items shipped to a US address. The Metra radio harness looks the same & they're available on ebay for delivery worldwide - might be the best option.

And for the previous poster, I can't see the benefit of retaining the 4x50W factory amp when the Pioneer h/u's internal amp is rated identically. I wasn't all that impressed with the 'Premium Sound System's' sound quality, so don't wish to retain any of it's componentry. I had a Pioneer h/u without an amp in a previous vehicle & the sound quality was terrific from four speakers, well good enough for my ears anyway ;)

Ahh no problem , I have pics of the wireharness and such in my photobucket but I cant find it right now , other wise I would of posted those up also.

but yeah its just a simple wireharness that works for all volvos, from 240 on up to 00 might even work later then that but the newer cars have the stearignwheel controls so not sure what else you would need to make that work.

The benefit of retaining the stock amp is simply plugging in.

With the correct 6 pin DIN to RCA adapter, you're just done.

No additional speaker rewiring. They look like this:

I've seen other versions on eBay as well.

Thanks for that. Now I've removed the h/u to amp harness to give me what all non-amped 850's would see in the way of a 10 & 14 pin connector, I assume without the amp my dash tweeters won't operate?

If that's the case, the amp needs to stay using the QBM din cable??

Sorry for all the queries but I'm a noob when it comes to sound - the mechanical stuff is my forte
