You're thinking of what they call 'flowing.' Also called extrusion honing. They use a clay based emulsifier and pump it back and forth through the manifold. This eats away at the inside and bores it out, as well as smooths it.

Just curious, Rob, do your manifold's require a core, or does the customer supply the manifold to be worked on? And do you have any of those available with one more runner? ;)

Hey yes we require a core back and we can send you one no problem, at the moment we do not have any 6cly manifolds in at the moment but can port on no problem.

I did it myself w/ a throttle body. I went through several dremel things. You have to use the ones that are like within' a mm size of the larger side of the TB. They're the dark colored ones. It took a coupla hours to actually get it bored out. Then you can use a polishing wheel of the same size to get it to a mirror shine. It ended up about 5 mm larger in diameter. I had to get a new throttle plate made by a machine shop. I also had them examine the throttle body itself and make sure it was perfectly round and stuff. The new throttle plate seals perfectly inside the housing and there are no leaks or irregularities. It's not on the car yet. I'm just going to replace it whenever I clean my EGR valve next. I am however interested in having my intake manifold ported and polished, which is obviously not doable by myself. Have you ported and polished intake manifolds before Rob?
