If your not sure of what plugs in where just read the color codes off the wires and consult a wiring diagram.

Absofreakin'Lutely! Find your year here under "Samochody Osobowe" and get the PDF.

http://mojevolvo.pl/wiki/Strona_g%C5%82%C3%B3wna

It's big file and a long download, but it'll help a lot now and in the future if you work on your own stuff.

I can't read any of that.

The wire in question has a yellow stripe on it.

Then here ya go to the next step:

There are only 4 years listed under "Schematy elektryczne Volvotechinfo".

Choose yours. I think you want this one:

TP3917201 Volvo 850 (1997) 59 stron (12.9 MB)

I can't tell if you have a evap canister purge valve or not? As already mentioned, the connector closest to the fan housing looks like the canister purge valve connection.

The second wire in qustion does not look long enough to reach to where the knock sensors are.

What color are the wires????? There will be no more guessing, then. Pull back that corrugated wire jacket, wipe the wires clean with some sort of cleaning stuff, then post what colors you find right here. On this forum. Then one of us will consult some of our many sources of useless Volvo knowledge and tell you EXACTLY what those plugs are for. We'll even make sure its translated out of the Mother Polish for ya.

Or we could all keep guessing what they are. ;) ;)

The connector for the knock sensor should be cliped to the wiring harness plastic channel just to the left of the point where the battery cable exits the harness to connect to the starter. It also has 3 pins.

These are the colors of the wires on the two female connectors mentioned.

Red w/ black stripe

Blue

Gray with black stripe

Blue with brown stripe

The car isn't getting spark. I checked it at the coil.

The camshaft position sensor plug is damaged. I've seen similar sensors on other cars prevent the coil from sparking.

I'm going to order a camshaft position sensor, and hopefully someone will know where the female ends are supposed to connect.

Thanks again.
