7 VII 7
No the coolant in the expansion tank looks great, no oil that I can see. Been in there 6-7 months and there is no oil slick on top.It overheated twice, once when a lower radiator hose blew, which caused the temp to spike however I shut it off right away. The second time it slowly creeped up when the fan relay stopped working and the radiator fan didn't turn on, however it didn't stay pegged because I shut it off right when I noticed it. But due to it's history of overheating twice in rapid succession has me thinking head gasket. This was 6 months ago that both these incidents happened, and it's losing such a small amount I don't know if it started after the overheating events or after I replaced all the other hoses back in October.yikes
wheelsup
yikesYeah nothing I can do about it now, the fact that it's losing such a small amount of coolant is surprising if it is indeed a head gasket. When it did overheat it never blew steam or anything, it was just at the top of the temp range on the instrument cluster. But again that was 6+ months ago...I guess either way I'm driving it, it's just I want to throw some tune up items on it (wire/cap/rotor/fuel filter) and start looking for either a 5-speed or good auto tranny but if it is the HG I'll forgo the mx items and skip the tranny, and just drive it till it dies. But I hate for it to go out like that, it's been in the family since new and I wanted to hold onto it. I just don't think I am up for a HG repair, and to have an indie do it is expensive as balls. dongle
yikesOverheating twice is nothing to worry about especially if he shut it off right afterward.I have done much much worse to my NA w/o the slightest of consequences.

wheelsup
yeah but it does not help LOL I agree!I threw in the towel, dropping it off tomorrow at my indie, he's going to give it a good look over and do the chemical test if he doesn't see anything. I just want to know either way.

wheelsup
OK I will ask him.First thing he did was pressurize the coolant tank, he found two small leaks, one was a radiator hose clamp which he tightened and the second was a small hairline crack in the radiator. He also said the coolant cap wasn't holding pressure I guess there's a spring in there that is broken. He said it was fine to drive for now as long as the level doesn't get too low, so I'm going to budget for a new radiator, expansion tank, and cap and call it a day. Thanks for everyones' help, I'm glad it ended up like this! I'll have to see.
