Rsterns
Can some body tell me why the cam cover gasket on these cars are such a hair raising issue for mechanics are they that bad, and how many have changed your ownAs Chillman stated correctly, there isn't one....I think the issue for mechanics is, if they don't know of alternate sources for the tube of gue, and price it at Volvo, it's like $25 a tube. (A price guestimate). Also if you don't apply it correctly, it will leak! Done correctly and you will not have an issue. The stuff actually works very well. blazen244
So there is no gasket between the cover and the block wow, so how do it go bad and how do you prevent oil leaks

Rsterns
So there is no gasket between the cover and the block wow, so how do it go bad and how do you prevent oil leaks The gasket compound is a type that cures with the absence of air. IF you clean the mating surfaces COMPLETELY, and apply the compound with a short hair roller as required, and keep it out of the oil channels, once torqued into place, the compound will set, and you will not have leaks for your efforts. The only leaks I've ever encountered were due to improper application.

Chilled man
 Pics Color milagecondition turbo or not Hi Actually any half retard mech should be albe to do it all with in two days if not quicker depending how knowledgalbe they are with volvos. The PCV is really easy 2hrs tops Redoing the cam cover seal I think is easier then doing the PCV since nothing really needs to come off the engine itself. But hey I am within driving distance and could use the extra money .................

(a total of four)agreed I would doubt its the head thats actaully leaking and the cam seals themselves since if hes looking to have the PCV done ..................is what is probally leaking
blazen244
95' 850 Turbo motors condition is, it runs solid other than the oil leak and it's bad not a minor leak I was also advised that the main seal may possibly need to be serviced sometime in the near future I've had the car since 98' and it has a little over 200,000 miles on it need some suspention work in the front I have all that springs sway bar links seats and struts. The two mechanics I took it to didn't mention anything about the front or rear cam seals needing to be changed, so because it's not an everyday driver I want to tackle the biggest problem first which is the gasket
